The one-time farming community of Killeen, Texas found itself recreated by the Second World War when the newly established Camp Hood consumed more than half of local farms and ranches. Following a brief economic recession after the war, the town's economy bounded back with the re-commissioning of the new Fort Hood in 1950. Now Killeen is a thriving military community with a population of some 93,000.
