In the initial settlement of the Colorado town of Westminster, single focus was initially placed on dreams of wealth following the discovery of gold in the region in 1858. After the Land Act of 1862, however, whole families began to move into the region. The civilizing presence brought by schools and churches formed the basis for the thriving community that exists in Westminster today.
