In this day and age movies keep getting better and have amazing special effects that we did not see years ago. If you are the type of person that loves action movies, then Underworld is perfect for you. Even though it fits under the category of action horror, this movie really does not contain any scary parts. Underworld really is just a high end action film, and by high end I mean that you will be blown away by the special effects this movie has to offer. As you watch Underworld, you will see that it has a lot of the same traits as a dark version of Romeo and Juliet. However this time it would be related to vampires and werewolves. Also, it is worth noting that Underworld did clean up at the box office. This was a movie that many people wanted to go see, and they did go and see it. Many people did, however, feel that the movie lacked in story line. Underworld is suppose to have a deep plot that has been building for over the course of time, but the movie does not always deliver on this story line. This may be way the movie was not well received by everyone.

Before, we talked about what people did not like about this movie, we need to talk about the strong fan base of this movie. As soon as Underworld came out, it accumulated a huge cult following. This is because it touched on a topic that a lot of people like to talk about, and see movies about. That being said, if you were not one of these people, you more than likely did not care for this movie. Underworld was not one of those movies that would attract people to it, that was not interested in this type of thing. Doing well in the box office makes you a great movie, but making people fall in love with something they normally would not watch makes you a classic. The bad news for Underworld is, it was not that type of movie. Not only did it receive a low score from people who posted online, many big name critics had negative things to say about it as well. In fact, Roger Ebert, after seeing this movie, claimed that it had a shallow plot and the background of the characters was weak. Not only that, the small plot that was there (the whole war thing) seemed only to provide the movie with graphic visuals. As said before, the online users of the world did not care for Underworld and gave it a 30% out of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. So although it did have a small cult following the majority of people did not care for Underworld.

Even with the bad press, the follow up story to Underworld was released back in January 2006. this movie was entitled Underworld: Evolution. Because of the negative press from the first one, Underworld: Evolution did not do as good. However, that is not enough to stop people from making money off the few who still like these movies, because a prequel to the films is set to be released in 2010. We will not know if this movie will do well or not, the only thing we can do is to wait for it to come out. If you are into this type of thing, you will love Underworld, and be very pleased that you chose to see it. If you have not seen it yet, then more then likely this is not the movie for you. Underworld is a decent movie, but I would save my money for another film.
