The Twister - To Twist Or Not To Twist

Added: 12/16/2005

Of all the games that I remember as a child, I never had the opportunity to play the twister. Not sure why. The twister always looked kooky to me and this was probably reinforced by my 4 brothers. The whole idea of spinning the wheel and placing your hands and feet on different colored circles was plain silly, not to mention painful and contorted. At least in my 10 year old mind it was. But then time passed and I went off to college. And I discovered just how great a game Twister really was...when you're naked.

It was in the hallowed halls of higher learning that I was first introduced to naked twister. This was the twister with a difference. Let's face it: this game is ages old. You spin the wheel and move either a hand or foot onto the space designated by the wheel. Fun ensues as the players are forced to contort their bodies into positions that make contact inevitable. This is a great party game, especially for parties that are going downhill quick, where you need that special something to break the ice. Excessive amounts of alcohol add to the fun.  As far as I know, the real winner of the twister is the person who can make it through the most maneuvers without falling down. In naked Twister however, if you are playing, you are winning. Come to think of it, if you and a bunch of your drunk friends (hopefully some if not all of them are female) can be convinced to play the twister without your clothes on then you all come out on top. No pun intended.

I wonder how many other games with good intentions have been completely bastardized thanks to the addition of nudity. The twister is one. Wasn't there another game called "Funny Bone...?" Something about holding a small bone in a pair of tweezers and trying not to touch the sides of the patient's body. Surely you've played it. I'm not sure how naked bodies floundering around on a sheet of plastic covered with dots can be introduced in that one but there must be a way. The twister with a stethoscope.

There are others besides the game twister. I think another was called Hot Potato. I don't remember the rules. As a child we didn't have the money to buy all this stuff. I don't know how Hot Potato was played, but I'm sure it would be a lot more fun if you and your girlfriend play it without any clothes on. In fact let me be the first to say (well maybe not the first) that any game, not just the game twister is a lot more fun without your clothes on. That is, assuming there's a girl or two playing it with you.

Getting back to my college days and naked twister. That fateful night, someone brought up that we needed to spray Pam all over our bodies. I don't know if anyone remembers Pam. It was no-stick aerosol-based grease used for pans and whatnot. I think it was discontinued some years ago when scientists discovered it was eating a hole in the ozone. But spraying it all over ourselves made everyone all slippery-slidey. Subsequent bouts of naked twister involved using oil which I found more fun than no-stick aerosol. But to each his own.

It should come as no surprise that it became apparent really quickly that all these naked, drunk bodies were itching for something more exciting that twister. I don't remember how many couples peeled away that night. Those brain cells are long since departed. But I'm confident that one or two of the 5 couples playing went on to bigger and better things and I can't say that I wasn't one of them. The macho man in me makes me want to snicker and say "yes" but I'm sure I was just thrilled to naked and playing twister and trying to stay focused as to not embarrass myself too much.
