The game taboo may not have been around for quite a long time, but the word has. It was originated in the Friendly Islands, now known as the Tongan islands for many, many, many years. It is a word that means not allowed or holy. The game taboo needs at least four people to play. Once you start to play, you will have a great time. It is such a good game that is family friendly can anyone can play. Have fun!
Taboo came from the word tabu, which literally meant under prohibition or not allowed. It also came from the word tapu which meant sacred or holy. They are often used in Australia as both you just have to translate the first words and decide which one fits the best.
Taboo is thought to also come from a Fijian word tabu, but was pronounced tam-boo. And it means about the same thing as tapu in the Tongan language. There version was mainly considered to mean holy.
Taboo can be a word used for any type of subject. Taboo game, taboo diets, anything can have something that is taboo in its little section. Taboo is mostly related to actions in a civilization or culture. Some cultures are built and ruled not by laws but by taboo rules. They have taboos on what should be eaten and how they should love and every little detail of their everyday lives. Like, it is taboo in some places to leave the able without permission. There are also more serious things like it is taboo in some countries for people to eat anything but vegetables. But the main thing people know taboo for is the taboo game.
The taboo game is very easy and fun to play. It can be played with a board game or without. In the board game you will pull out the board and lay it flat on to a table top. You have to have an even number of people to play because it requires teams. There are usually at least four people, but you could play with as many as you want! You will draw a card from the stack and read it to your self. In the taboo game there will be a word written on a card. A good example would be unicorn. You must describe this word that was given to you, not with actions but with your words. Easy huh? Well, if that were it I think the taboo game would be very boring. Here is where taboo comes to play. Underneath the word you have to describe are the taboo words, the ones that you cannot say when describing the word. Taboo words for unicorn would be horse, horn, one myth, forehead, or white. Then you would have to say something like…this is an equine creature of legend with a singular feature projecting from its brow. You would go on like this. Each team has about three minutes to guess. Then, the first team to get to ten points first wins. This taboo game is a great game to play with anyone of any age. It is a great and easy game! You will have nothing but kicks and giggles the entire time. This game can be played at any occasion. It can be played at cook outs, church functions, parties, even your children’s sleepovers. Have fun!
