I, for one, am not a big fan of musicals, but The Sound of Music is not only a good one, it is an American classic. This is a film that was made from a Broadway play which opened back in the late 1950's. However, the play got its idea from a book made by Maria von Trapp. This book was called The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. The Sound of Music also had great music in both the play and the film that lives on in the heart of many people who has seen it. These are not songs that you will easily forget. The music for this film and play was written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, they were a very good team. However, if you wanted to hear other music they did together after The Sound of Music, that would be impossible. The Sound of Music was the last music written by these two, because Hammerstein died of cancer only nine months after the premiere of The Sound of Music. Of course, he will live on in the hearts of everyone that was a fan of The Sound of Music.

When you watch The Sound of Music, the first thing you are going to remember is the great songs the movie has. Some of the best known songs in the movie are, “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” and the classic “Do-Re-Mi.” However, this movie was just not about music, it also had a small story to go with it as well. The Sound of Music was about a lady who becomes the babysitter for a family. The dad is very hard on the kids, and gives the babysitter orders that she is to follow. However, she does not and ends up befriending the kids. In the end, she ends up pulling the family together and her and the dad get married. Of course, the babysitter is the lady who breaks off into most of the songs throughout the movie, so you are going to either love her or hate her. This is a movie that is a good one to see at some point in your life, after all it is a classic. Of course, you are going to really have to like musicals to be able to find the greatness of this film. Either way is should be in your DVD collection just because it is an American classic film.

People who are fans of classic movies or musicals are going to love The Sound of Music; however, there is not much here for anyone else. Either way you should at least see this movie once over the course of your life, and you will see why everyone loves the film so much. Many kids now a days see this movie in schools. Usually this is a movie that gets shown sometimes in music classes. I think that is a great idea because I think kids today need to see the movies from the past that made movies today so great. The classic movies are the films that set the stage for all movie to follow them. If you do not go back and watch these older movies like The Sound of Music, you can never really love the newer films and Broadway plays. Watching older movies are a great way to spend time as a family and to see a little piece of history. Although, not all kids are going to want to watch this movie; if they give it a chance they will walk away learning something that they never knew. This is a great film and is worth buying.
