The Solaris Movie Is One Of The Best Added: 11/29/2007

In 1972 a great Russian film was made called Solaris. One reason why this film was so great was because of its great plot and deep story. I believe it had such a great story because the Solaris movie was based on a novel by a Polish author. The film was loved so much in Russia that an American version of the film was made. Although the movie had the same plot and starred George Clooney, it was a lost cause. The American version of the film was no where near as good as the Russian version. In fact, the American film had a budget of about 40 million dollars. However, the film itself only grossed about 15 million. The director blamed this to the fact of the movie being hard to advertise, no matter what the reason the movie did not fare so well in America. Of course, this was not a problem in Russia, and the movie went on to be a great success. In fact, if you have not seen this film yet, I suggest you run out and get it right away. Watching movies that come from overseas is not what I usually like. However, this is one of the films that I did not mind watching. It was very different than any other movie I have ever seen, and it made me want to read the book. After all, if the movie is that great then I bet the book itself is amazing. Any movie or book that has a plot like the Solaris movie has to be great. After all, that is all you need to make a great movie. All you need is a great plot and some great actors.


As said before the Solaris movie was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, and I think that is another reason why the movie was so great. The main setting for the Solaris movie takes place on a space station. After being on the space station for awhile, Kelvin (who is the star of the movie) beings to see some crazy things. This is where the movie starts getting really good. In fact, you soon learn that one of the crew members that was on the space station to being with had committed suicide. However, the movie just gets a little more crappy from there on out. The two other people that are left on the space station have been acting funny ever since he got on the space station, and he figures it is just because of the death of the other crew member. Not too far into the movie Kelvin starts to see people who are not really there and getting some very strange visitors. In fact, at one point he gets visited by his dead wife. She had been dead for over 10 years so seeing her there was not a very good feeling for Kelvin. I love this film because the longer the Solaris movie plays the crazier it gets, until it finally all reaches a head. At that point you get the climax of you film, and some things happen that you did not see coming. The Solaris movie was really good and mostly everyone had nothing but nice things to say about it.

Most of the reviews that you are going to find on the Solaris movie are great, and people found nothing wrong with it. However, a few of the people that saw the movie think that it is very slow moving. It is a very slow moving psychological thriller. If you are not good at watching slow movies then the Solaris movie is not for you. For everyone else, however, this movie is as great as they come. Because it is a Russian film I am sure many of you have not seen it. I think that the next time you go and rent a movie you might as well make it the Solaris movie, I am sure you will not be let down by it.
