The Rise Of Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman has had a strange rise to the top of the Hollywood industry and that strange rise has included not only hit movies but also being a part of one of the worst jokes in Academy Award show history. When David Letterman made his very bad Uma / Oprah joke at the Oscars in 1995 he was playing on the name of an actress on the rise. Since then Uma Thurman has done very well for herself.
Uma Thurman is an American born actress who was born on April 29, 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts. In her life she has been nominated for the Academy Award and won several other acting awards in her career for her roles in some of the most memorable movies in the history of Hollywood. She is known primarily for her work in the Quentin Tarantino movies she has starred in which have included Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and Kill Bill Volume 2 but her work extends way beyond the strange world of Quentin Tarantino. In her life she has been married to actor Gary Oldman and Ethan Hawke and has had two children with Hawke. This actress is all about her career and as she pushes forward everyone wonders what will be next for Uma Thurman.

Uma Thurman first appeared on the screens of movie theaters all over the world when she had a role in the 1988 hit Dangerous Liaisons where she shared the screen with such greats as Glenn Close and John Malkovich. Then in 1990 she took a more provocative role in the movie Henry & June and Uma Thurman was starting to get people’s attention. She kept working and gaining a name for herself until finally her break through role came. When she was only 24 years old Uma Thurman starred in the Quentin Tarantino hit Pulp Fiction and got nominated for an Oscar for her performance. It was her role as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction that flew open the doors for her and soon her popularity was growing by leaps and bounds. She even found herself at the center of some extra attention at the 1995 Academy Awards show as host David Letterman delivered his now famous bomb Uma / Oprah joke at that show and even though the joke bombed terribly it still helped to add to her fame and even today that joke will get revisited when Uma Thurman is seen at awards shows.

Uma Thurman soon became in demand and she played a variety of roles for the next few years. In 1996 she played in the romantic comedy The Truth About Cats & Dogs and then in 1997 she played the sexy villain Poison Ivy in the critical and financial flop Batman & Robin. But Uma Thurman kept going and soon she would find huge success again in the place where she first earned it, starring in a Quentin Tarantino movie. In 2003 Uma Thurman starred in the bizarre Quentin Tarantino movie Kill Bill: Vol 1 which turned out to be a box office and critical success. In 2004 Uma Thurman revised her Kill Bill character in the even more successful Kill Bill: Vol 2 and once again Quentin Tarantino had helped to revitalize Uma Thurman’s career and put her back into the Hollywood elite.

After the Kill Bill movies Uma Thurman went on to star in such movies as the 2005 disappointment Be Cool which was a sequel to the successful movie Get Shorty. Uma Thurman kept going and starred in the popular comedy my Super Ex-Girlfriend. Uma Thurman is still trying to recapture that success she found after Pulp Fiction but she continues to work and it is a belief in Hollywood that Uma Thurman will find the success she is looking for and is so deserving of by anyone’s standards and even by her own.
