Schaumburg, Illinois was once known as Sarah’s Grove however; because this city was entirely German until the 1930’s the citizens changed its name. They decided on the name Schaumburg because many of its residents had immigrated there from the part of Germany known as Schaumburg-Lippe. In 1858 the central service district for nearby farmers was established. This area still stands today and maintains its historic appeal. The Old Schaumburg Centre originally contained four cheese factories, two general stores, a shoemaker, one blacksmith, one tailor and a wagon maker.
