The main teaching of Ms. Martin was that women were quite capable of lending intelligence and thoughts regarding politics and community action, all without the help of males. Members of Radical Women's organiazitons have become involved in speaking out not just for women’s rights but also on such political issues such as the Vietnam War, which they were very deadest against.
In the year 1969, the women of Radical Women united together with African Americans to create an anti-poverty program. The nature of this program was to actually move along the issue of abortion rights of women. In the beginning of the 1970’s, Radical Women held a now famous strike to show support for under-paid workers. Most of the under-paid labor consisted of women and minorities. Determined to rise just as high as men in the work force, this group also began a movement to train women to work in the electrician field.
Radical Women's organizations have always be known to raise awareness with great power. They work on making society very aware of the unfairness shown to women in all aspects of society. They strongly believe that no women should ever have to face poverty, racism, sexism or oppression. Working with minorities, this group calls out for fairness among all races. They also are fierce supporters of the rights of lesbians in societies. Another strong aspect of Radical Women is the determination that all women should have the right to immediate abortions if requested.
Believing that there is power in numbers, this group joined forces with childcare organizations and other feminist movements. This group has also had ties to the famous Black Panthers. The Black Panthers were an organization that focused on calling awareness to deadly police attacks against minorities. They were known as a Black militant group. Radical Women also united with Native American women, to help several women leaders take control of an Native American hospital that was turned into a juvenile center.
Although comprised of women of all of all sexual natures, Radical Women's organizations are very sympathetic towards lesbians and fight hard to obtain equal rights for women who live this lifestyle. They have pushed for nationwide HIV testing and have fought for gay rights. This is an extreme group and looks for members who want to be union militants. Women who have already secured high level jobs in the work place are always encouraged to join.
