The Pros And Cons Of Teens Parenting

Added: 04/25/2007

Teen parenting is a big issue in this day and age. We need to figure out ways to help the younger generation make wise choices towards birth control and sex. The only way this can happen is if parents make a decision to inform their children of the consequences. The parents also need to explain the good and the bad when it comes to having children that you are not ready or unable to take care of yourself.

Becoming a teen parent is one of the most difficult decisions an adolescent can make. They need to take a look at all their options and make an informed decision. There are plenty of resources in the community that can help teens with the process of trying to figure out what to do. Hopefully, the parents of the adolescent have agreed to help support the teen through this major transition. It can be challenging to assist teens parenting because you want them to do everything right. However, it is better to let them make a few minor mistakes occasionally so they can learn from them. You can be in the background with advice if needed.
After the baby is born is not the best time to think about how they will feed and clothe the child. Have a plan in place before the child comes. This way, the teens parenting can devote themselves to their baby and not worry all the time how things will get done. Children need that emotional bond from the time they are born. Don't let the teen deny the little one that because they are worrying about how to pay the bills.
Teens parenting also cope with the decision of whether or not to drop out of school after the baby is born. There are GED programs that can help them finish. The best advice out there is to have you, a trusted friend, or even a daycare program watch the child while the teen finishes school. This will be better in the long run for the teen and the baby. It will lead to a better job and better pay sometimes.
Another important thing is to also make sure the teens parenting get a break every so often. Watching a child every day may tend to wear thin on their nerves. They would much rather be out with their friends at this time in their life. But the teen is stuck with a child and unable to go out. Make sure they take some time for themselves and get away from the house and the baby. This will allow them a little freedom and some downtime. It is tough being a teenage parent.
If they want to try to raise the child together, they must ask themselves some difficult questions. Where will they live? Do they have a good relationship with each other? How will they divide the chores and taking care of the baby? If they decide to move into an apartment, how will they pay rent? These are tough questions that must be evaluated before they make a decision.
The teens are still growing and they must take time to take care of themselves too. Be sure they are getting plenty of rest and eating healthy. If they are breastfeeding, make sure they get all the nutrients they need for healthy milk. Go to all the doctor's appointment before and after the baby is born. Keeping both the teen and the baby healthy will help ward off any problems.
The most important thing they can have as a teen parenting is patience. It is hard getting up in the middle of the night for those 2AM feedings. It is hard to change those smelly diapers. They have to take it all in stride. Tell the teen to talk to the child and let the child know they are loved and wanted. Don't ever make them feel like they shouldn't have been born. Love them unconditionally. The teen will reap the many rewards as the child grows older and applies the lessons that the teen parent has tried to teach them.
