The Piano was made in 1993, and it did win many awards including some Academy Awards. Just winning one for a movie is great, but winning more than one just blows my mind. Of course, the movie The Piano blows a lot of people away, and I think that this could have been because it was an international co production piece. The movie was done between Ciby 2000 (France) and Jan Chapman Films (Australia). Of course, the fact that this movie had such a great cast helped as well, and this movie had such stars as Holly Hunter, Sam Neill, Anna Paquin, and Harvey Keitel. The Piano (not surprisingly) also had a bestselling soundtrack album that came out after the movie did. The Piano was written and directed by Jane Campion. This is a movie that you will not soon forget after seeing it. Any movie that wins this many awards has to be a good movie, because it won awards from all over the place. This is not just a movie that applied to one group of people, it applied to a lot of people. I think this is because it was done as an international co-production, but that is just my guess. Either way you look at it, this movie had a great directed and a great cast. Those are the winning ingredients to any great movie, and The Piano proved that.

The Piano movie itself is about a mute pianist and her daughter. The movie is set during the mid 19th century. The movie has kind of a different feel to it because it is set in the rainy frontier of New Zealand. If you have never been to New Zealand this is a movie to watch that will give you a good feel for it. The great thing about the cast of this movie was the ability to love the movie they were in and really being able to get into their roles. None of that is more true than when you talk about Holly Hunter. In fact, Holly Hunter wanted to play her own piano pieces for the film, and serve as the teacher of Paquin. Because of all this she earned herself three different screen credits.

If you are a fan of great movies (and I sure hope you are) then you should waste no more time reading this, and go down to your local Blockbuster and pick up this movie. The Piano is one of those movies that you cannot forget about, and that is what makes it such a great movie. Now, this movie did have a lot of hype here, as you can clearly see by all the awards it won. However, I do not want you to watch this movie because of all the hype, that is not why this movie was made. It was made to tell a story and if you are going to watch The Piano, you might as well be watching for the story. Do not watch a movie just because everyone else watches it. Sometimes it is great to just be yourself, as you will see when watching this movie. You are what you are, and not everyone is going to love this movie. This is just because we all have different tastes when it comes to motion pictures. If you do like a good story, you will have a good time watching this movie. It will leave you with a different feeling than what most films leave you with, but that is not a bad thing. This movie is what it is, and that is what makes it one of the best movies you can rent. I think this is a movie you are going to want to own, I give it 4 stars.
