Movies always seem like they are better when they are based on a novel of some kind. I guess that is why I like The Night of the Hunter movie so much, because it is based on a novel written by Davis Grubb. The Night of the Hunter is based on a true story of Harry Powers who was hanged in 1932 for the murders of two widows and three children in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The director of this great movie was James Agee and Charles Laughton. They are the men who turned this book into a screen play. If you have never seen this movie it is a movie that will knock your shocks off, this is a must see for everyone.

Any movie that has Congress preserve it, has to be good. The Night of the Hunter is one of those movies. This is a movie that everyone remembers and loves. In fact, it has a tremendous influence on many different directors over the course of time. Getting other directors is something that is hard to do, and if you can do that then you have made a great movie. The Night of the Hunter is one of those movies that you have to see in order to know how great it is. If you never see it you will never understand the full meaning behind how great it is. Of course, you do need to keep in mind that this is a movie about a killer so it may not be a movie that you feel your kids should watch.

The Night of the Hunter is set in West Virginia, somewhere along the Ohio River. Now, what era the movie is set in is never stated, but judging how everyone is dressed and the things that they have, you can guess that it is around the time of the Great Depression. The Night of the Hunter starts out about Ben Harper who is sentenced to be hung because he took part in a robbery. Before they got him, Ben hid the money and told his children John and Pearl about it. The kids where about between 5 and 10, but he still entrusted them with the location of the money. While in jail, a man name Harry Powell (who the story is about) overhears Harper talk about the location of the money. When Powell gets out of prison he goes in search of the money dressed up like a preacher. Then he woos and marries Harper's widow so that he can obtain the robbery money. Of course, then Powell eventually kills the widow. I will not tell you anymore about the movie, otherwise, I would give away all the good stuff. To find out how The Night of the Hunter ends you are going to have to rent it and watch it. Just keep in mind that this is a great movie that is full of murder and twists. If you have never rented this movie then you should do it right away, you will not be sorry you did.

The Night of the Hunter is one of my favorite movies of all time. This is a movie that you are going to want to add to your DVD collection. This is because it is so good and is a classic. Of course, finding this movie is going to be hard because it was made back in 1955. If you spend some time looking for it online I am sure you will come across it. This is a movie that you will be happy to pay for the shipping on because it is so hard to find. Either way you look at it The Night of the Hunter is a great film that you need to watch. You may not want your kids to see it, but it is not as bad as a lot of the movies today. This is because of how old the movie is. You could not get away with as much back then as you can today in movies.
