The masquerade is the life game that we play. The overlaying masks that already exist and that only few get to really see us in our true self. We, as human beings, need to feel alive and therefore embrace the concept of life. There are many ways that we search for this and one of them is through entertainment. Entertainment comes in many forms, gambling, movies, clubbing, parties and so forth. Depending on what we fancy or what the magazines tell us is in then we find our entertainment fix.
Masquerade balls are quite old in their nature, as we humans have always enjoyed the intrigue of pretending to be something or someone else. It is the need for acting out a role, which is in fact quite similar to that which we do in our everyday lives.

However, one has to ponder. Do masquerade parties actually mean that we are pretending or is that just part of the complexities of the human personality? Are there more dimensions to us then we let on or know about?

With all the things that happen, we tend to conform, so that we do not stick out too much, yet we still claim individualism. That is however open for debate, the thing is that just maybe these masquerade balls are the much needed character change. Where the mystery and depth of our personalities is explored with all probabilities.
Indeed it does make you wonder. After all, as kids playing pretend was part of growing up and having interesting life experiences that have shaped us into the unique individuals we are now.
