The Living Is Great In Providence, Rhode Island

When it comes to New England locations, one may not find a more perfect location than that in Providence, Rhode Island. This wonderful city is famous for its charm and amazing scenery. Whether a person is planning on entering Providence as a long staying tourist, a weekend get-a-away visitor or planning on becoming a proud resident, it is a good idea to be well informed of all that Providence, Rhode Island has to offer. It is truly a unique and wonderful New England area that compares to none.

The history of Providence is quite unique. In 1900, this city became the capital of the state of Rhode Island. However, soon afterward the Great Depression hit and as it did in just about every other city and town, it brought great misfortune and economic tribulations. Just as the Great Depression was lifting and life seemed to be improving, the infamous New England Hurricane of 1938 struck this wonderful area. Rebuilding began almost immediately following this horrible event, and then to the demise of its residents, organized crime syndicates took hold of the city. From the 1950’s into the 1970’s it was the center point of the New England Mafia. Luckily for the population in Providence, Rhode Island, millions of community dollars came in, in efforts to construct toward development. The mafia is now long disappeared and Providence is a thriving and exciting city in the United States.
There are countless activities to participate in and there is something for everyone. For those interested in nature, there are loads of zoos and attractions including The Rhode Island Zoological Society and The Roger Williams Park Zoo. For those interested in learning, there are over thirteen museums, including the Culinary Archives and Museum at Johnson & Wales University.
Interested in the arts? Not a problem. In Providence, Rhode Island one can visit numerous art galleries and theater, including the Providence Black Repertory Company, The Trinity Repertory Company, the Kaleidoscope Theatre and the Providence Opera. If golf is more of an interest, that is taken care of as well, Providence offers many cream of the crop golf courses such as Triggs Memorial Golf Course, the Button Hole Club House and the Silver Spring Golf Course.
The downtown area is filled with restaurants and clubs. A person can discover any category of dining establishment from cozy and welcoming diners to elegant and luxurious restaurants. When it comes to dancing and listening to music, the number of clubs and bars are astonishing. There is most undoubtedly a spot for everyone.
Providence, Rhode Island weather will keep a person on their toes, as it changes quite frequently. Temperatures can differ anywhere from the twenties to the high eighties depending on the season. Winter will give way to the coldest temperatures. Although located in New England, which is a Northern area, recognized for large snowfall, Rhode Island often will receive less significant amounts than other states in the north due to is particular location. Sometimes when Massachusetts and New Hampshire will have two feet of snow dumped on them, the residents of Providence, Rhode Island need only deal with a few inches. However, this area has seen its share of snowstorms and it is best to be prepared with shovels and all essential snow gear.
Spring is a welcomed season, as it brings in new and fresh warm air. The trees sprout new leaves and the flowers embark on blooming. This is when a lot of people will progress activities to the outdoors and participate in things such as walking, hiking and bike riding.
Summer is a wonderful season for Providence, Rhode Island, and the temperatures try to remain in the eighties. It is sizzling enough to enjoy boating or swimming but not so much that one wants to hide inside with the air conditioner.
Autumn is the seasons that is most cherished. The foliage in Rhode Island will bring magnificent colors of reds, oranges, yellows and purples to all of its trees. Many visitors will choose this season in which to journey to this location, as many festivals and fairs are held to commemorate the changing seasons and the wonderful hues of the scenery.
When in need of accommodations, it is not a problem in Providence, Rhode Island. There are an abundance of hotels, ranging from modest to elegant. No matter what one’s price range, there will be plenty of choices. If deciding to relocate to this area, houses and apartments are not in shortage. Apartments located within walking distance of the downtown area will be priced a bit higher than others; however many people feel this is a fair tradeoff.
For an area that has seen many setbacks, Providence has certainly made a comeback. This capital is a very popular choice for people to call home. With its entertaining and exciting downtown, its charming and welcoming surrounding area and its great New England location, no wonder so many people choose to settle down in Providence, Rhode Island. It is a good suggestion to visit the area initially, take a glance around at all of the offerings and then make a decision if relocating to Providence seems like the correct idea.
