Crater Lake Lodge is part of Crater Lake National Park which is open year round. Activities at Crater Lake in Oregon include cross country skiing in the winter as well as skiing and snowshoeing and camping. Boat tours, hiking, and scenic tours also take place here as well, around the Lake.
One of the most significant events in Crater Lake is the Volcano Boat Tours. These tours begin 4th of July Weekend and end on Labor Day. The guided tour of Crater Lake takes participants from Cleetwood Cove and lasts for one hour and forty-five minutes. This trail is fairly steep, and is about 1.1 miles long.
Seven tours are given daily during the Volcano Boat Tour Season. Those who want to take this tour can purchase tickets at Cleetwood Cove parking lot. Near the Crater Lake Lodge and surrounding areas is another place to camp. This place is called the Mazama Campground.
The Mazama Campground is located near Highway 62 at the Annie Springs entrance, and it offers 211 campsites from mid-June to early-October. Another Campground is located nearby that is more secluded, called Lost Creek. This has 16 campsites for only tents, as well as cold water faucets and toilet facilities. Lost Creek is opened from the middle of July to the Middle of September, and permits for Backcountry camping are issued here as well.
The various trails surrounding the Crater Lake Lodge and surrounding areas include hiking trails of varying difficulties. Some are very easy, like a walk in the park, while others are very strenuous, and meant for the avid outdoors person. The Pacific Crest Trail, which is thirty-three miles long total, offers a breathtaking view of the lake. Hikers can enjoy this, as well as obtain a permit to do backcountry camping if they would like.
Two types of visit that are sought near the Crater Lake and Crater Lake Lodge area are the Kokanee Salmon and the Rainbow Trout. No fishing license is required to fish in the boundaries of this park, and fishing can be done year-round, except when weather poses a threat to people’s safety.
The main access to Crater Lake is by way of Cleetwood Trail. This is located on the North side of the Lake. There really is no other way to enter into this body of water otherwise. The Cleetwood Cove and Crater Lake Area provide quite a bit of rocky shoreline for angling. Another section where fishing is done in this are includes that of Wizard Island, which is open during the time when boat tours are still running.
