Next October 18th, you should go up there and see what it is all about. One of the many legal holidays in the United States of America is the Alaska Day Celebration. This is a day to celebrate the anniversary of the formal transfer of the territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States of America. This is something that happened a long time ago, back in 1867 on October 18th. This was done at a flag raising ceremony at Fort Sitka where they lowered the Russian flag and put up the America flag. The Alaska Day celebration is a holiday that the whole state celebrates. In fact, this is one of the few paid holidays for the state of Alaska and its employees. One of the biggest celebrations of Alaska Day is celebrated in Sitka. In fact, during the Alaska Day celebration schools gets released early, and many businesses close for the day. Also, you have a good chance of seeing some parades and a reenactment of the flag raising on this day as well. This is a day of great celebration, just for that fact that a new state was added to the United States of America. However, this day should not be confused with Seward's day (which takes place in the last Monday in March).

You see the Alaska Day Celebration takes place on October 18th, but Seward's Day takes place the last Monday in March. So why would these two days get confused together you ask, well because they are related. You see, on March 30th the United States purchased Alaska from Russia, and that marks the signing of the treaty of the Alaska Purchase. However, the territory was only sold to the United States in March, it was not until sometime later (October 18th) that the Commissioners arrived in Sitka to do the formal transfer of the territory. The first ceremony included 250 uniformed United States soldiers that marched to the Governor's house in Sitka, where the transfer was made. This is where the Russian trooper lowered the Russian flag, and the United States troops raised the America flag. As you can see it would be very easy to confuse the two days together. They are related to the same thing, however, they both mean different things. Either way Alaska Day celebration is a day you will not soon forget. Also, this is a day that the people of Alaska love, because they get the day off work and the kids get out of school. Now, that is a great holiday if you ask me (I mean who does not love a paid holiday).

The great Alaska Day Celebration is a holiday that you will never forget. This is a very happy day for many people, and it is a time we get a break to spend with our families. Any day that we get to spend with our families, I feel, is a great day because it is hard to get time alone with your family. Of course, Alaska Day celebration makes it possible. This is because the kids are out of school and the businesses are closed for the day. It is a day where you get to see great parades and reenactments. I hope that in some day in your life you get to share the Alaska Day celebration with your family. This is a day that you will never forget, and it is a day that you will never want to forget, so go out there and have a good time.
