The Great Actor, James Stewart

James Stewart (full name James Maitland Stewart) was born on May 20, 1908 and die on July 2, 1997. Before his death, James Stewart starred in many classic films and was nominated for five Oscars. James Stewart was not only a hero on screen, he was a hero in real life as well. He had a very note worthy military career in the United States Air Force. Over the course of his career, James starred in all different types of moves which ranged from comedies to suspense thrillers and he nailed them all.
When you are talking about some of the greatest actors that ever lived, you have to bring up James Stewart (also know as Jimmy Stewart in the United States). This was a man that could do it all, and in a way he did. James Stewart starred in many movies from a wide range of genres, which means there was nothing this man could not do. Some movies he played in were comedies, westerns, and even biographies from time to time. Of course, if there was one genre that he was better at then others, it would have to be his suspense thrillers. James Stewart did an amazing job pulling people into the suspense of his movies. This is why Alfred Hitchcock chose to use James Stewart in many of his films (which where mostly of the horror suspense type). No matter what type of movie it was, if it had James Stewart in it, the movie was going to be a great hit. This is why many of his movies are still played on TV today. When you got it, you got it, it does not matter what time period it is.

James Stewart stared in lots of movies. Some of his most well known ones would be “It's a Wonderful Life,” “The Philadelphia Story,” and “Harvey.” Those are some of his biggest hits that were not of the suspense type. You cannot talk about James Stewart without bring up some of the movies that he was in that were directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This was a man who directed some of the greatest movies of all time, and he needed one of the greatest actors of all time to pull it off. Some of the movies that he made that starred James Stewart were “Rope,” “Rear Window,” and the smash hit “Vertigo.” Out of all these movies, none reached the popularity of “Vertigo.” This was an instant classic as soon as it was released, and is still highly talked about to this day. It is sad that a man with such great talent had to pass away, but at least he left behind an amazing legacy of classic films to remember him by.

For as long as Hollywood still stands and people keep going to movies, James Stewart will never be forgotten. This was a man that was considered one of the greatest actors from the golden age of Hollywood. Out of the five Oscar nominations, he won two of them. One in competition and the other was for life time achievement (which is a big award, because you have to be a great actor for many years to win this award). I think this is why James Stewart was named, by the American Film Institute, the third greatest male star of all time. When you think about it, that is a big claim. There has been a lot of great male actors in the history of film making, and to be named as the third greatest of all time is quite an honor. If you have not had a chance to see all the James Stewart movies that are out there, then I suggest you go rent them tonight. Of course, he has made so many, it will take you a few nights to watch them all, but it will be well worth it. His movies are not the kind that you can pass up. If James Stewart would have been born in your era, he still would have been a big hit. This is because it does not matter what era you are in, when you have talent like his. We will never forget what he brought to his movies, and we can only hope that some actors will try to follow in his foot steps.
