The first installment in The Chronicles Of Narnia is called The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe and it is about four young children named Lucy, Edmund, Peter, and Susan Pevensie who are sent to the home of an eccentric old professor to escape the Nazi bombings going on near their home in London, England. The children find life with the professor very boring until Lucy, played by Georgie Henley, discovers a secret wardrobe that gives her the ability to see the land of Narnia. The other children think Lucy is crazy until they all go through the wardrobe and wind up in the land of Narnia themselves. Narnia is a beautiful place but right away the children sense something is wrong. They meet up with Aslan, voiced by Liam Neeson, who is the lion that is the king of Narnia but Aslan tells them the story of Narnia. The White Witch has made it snow for 100 years in Narnia and promises no end in sight and no Christmas either. The children were foretold to be the chosen ones that can stop the White Witch and they team up with Aslan to try and defeat the White Witch and bring Narnia out of its 100 years of captivity.
The visual effects in The Chronicles Of Narnia are breathtaking and the story is fascinating. It is widely accepted that CS Lewis was a genius and his seven book series on The Chronicles Of Narnia was already wildly popular before this first movie came out. It is unclear if The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe will be the only Chronicles Of Narnia movie or if more are going to be made, Walden Media owns the rights to all seven books, but if no other Narnia movie is ever made at least there is this one masterpiece of a movie to pay homage to a masterpiece of a book by a brilliant writer. Let us just wait and see if Hollywood, and New Zealand, can get together again to bring more of these brilliant stories to life for the big screen and to save for all time.
