The Expanding Source of Anabolic Steroids

While the phrase 'anabolic steroids' might not be familiar to all Americans, the word 'steroids' has certainly gained widespread recognition. Probably not since the investigation into the safety of The Pill for contraception have members of the U.S Congress taken such a close look at any medication. Yet that should not suggest that the outcome of inquiries on steroids will copy the outcome of inquiries on The Pill.
During the past three years, the growing concern over the illegal use of anabolic steroids has reached as far as the halls of Congress. A number of well-known baseball players have had to answer questions that were posed to them by members of a Congressional panel. That panel had hoped to limit the use of anabolic steroids within the confines of the locker room of America’s professional baseball players.

Synthesis in the laboratory of a chemical with similarities to testosterone has led to the manufacture and sale of anabolic steroids. The FDA has approved steroids for treatment of severe burns and injuries. It has not, however, approved the practice of “pumping steroids.” That involves the administration of anabolic steroids by athletes, those who want to get bigger and stronger muscles.

Dianabol was the name of one of the more popular steroids. It had the ability to increase the muscle mass of the athlete who did not fear its possible side effects. That athlete also had to put up with the need to inject the Dianabol. That was one reason why pharmaceutical companies worked on creation of improved steroids. Winstrol depot now serves as a replacement for Dianabol.

The position of a methyl group on the synthesized testosterone derivative determines the mode of administration for today’s steroids. Winstrol depot has a methyl group on carbon number 17. Scientists have discovered that by putting a methyl group on that carbon, they can provide athletes with anabolic steroids that function even if they are taken orally, rather than by injection.

Winstrol depot has another benefit not available to the user of former steroid medications. It causes less water retention by the body of the steroid user. Water retention, if excessive, can put a real strain on the heart. That is one of the many possible side effects of which any steroid user should be aware.

Longterm use of anabolic steroids can lead to many additional side effects. It introduces changes in the liver function of the athlete who is using the steroids. Those changes can cause jaundice and hepatic necrosis.

Sometimes an athlete might find it difficult to avoid using steroids. A teammate might, for example, suggest the use of stanozohol. That teammate might not reveal the fact that stanozohol is the scientific name for steroids. The teammate might even mention two very popular changes that can take place on the body of an athlete taking stanozohol.

A male athlete who ingests or injects synthetic testosterone could enjoy more than just larger muscles. That athlete might also notice a degree of phallic enlargement. He could even note an increase in the frequency of his erections. A male athlete on steroids could easily become absorbed with the growing masculine nature of his body. That absorption might disguise the harmful side effects of the steroids.

Steroids can lead a man to feel as if he is becoming stronger and healthier, when in fact his liver and other body organs are undergoing detrimental changes. The efforts made to force the abandonment of steroid use stem from a realization of that irony.
