The Danger Of Malware

Added: 11/02/2007

If you use the internet, then you know that there are lots of things that you have to be on the look out for all the time. Such things would be viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and even spyware. All these things fit under the category of malware, which stands for malicious software. The best way to protect yourself from malware is to download anti virus protection to put on your computer and keep it up to date against the latest malware programs that get released. Of course that may not be able to protected you against all upcoming new malware, but it is better to have it and have some protection than to be without it.

If you use the internet, then you know that there are lots of things that you have to be on the look out for all the time. The danger of malware is everywhere. Every site that you go to and every little thing you download could be infected with some type of this malicious software. The term malware stands for any program or software that is made for the sole purpose of causing harm to a computer or network of computers. Why people make these types of programs is not understood, but one thing is for sure, they are out there and they are making them. The best way to get rid of malware that gets on your computer is to keep it from getting there in the first place. That is why if you are ever going to get on the internet you need to have malware protection up and running. Some ask that you pay a fee to use their software, others let you download it for free, those are called free-ware. Just because you pay for it does not mean that it works better. Lots of free-ware protection programs work just as good if not better than any one that you would pay for. The biggest thing you have to do, is to keep it up to date. Now this is easy to do on most malware protection units. They will more then likely update themselves, which is good for you. That way you do not have to remember to do it yourself. You just have to remember to keep it running, and if one does get by, then they usually come with a malware removal program built in.

When talking about the danger of malware, you have to talk about all the different types there are. There are a lot of different kinds of malware, and they all work in different ways. Like worms will dig deep into your computer and nest, most of the time you can not even tell they are there. This type of malware can spread itself over many computers if it it hooked up on a network. Then you have a Trojan horse. You usually get these from downloading them from the internet. Unlike the other forms of malware, this one has to be started by the computer user. Most of the time you will not know it is a Trojan horse because it will say that its something else, like a music file or video game. Hence, that is how it got its name, Trojan horse. Then you also got spyware, which you can pick up on any site. These little tracking cookies will steal information from your computer and send it to whoever made it. Most of the time it is just advertising companies that will pay to have your email address so they can spam you.

You can never be too protected from malware. Just keep your virus protection up to date, and do the best you can. Also, lots of these malware protection units will scan things before you open it, this will keep the virus from being open on your computer. I feel like that is one of the best ways to keep the danger of malware at bay. It is a bad world out there, full of bad people. That should not stop you from using the internet. The internet is full of great sites and even better people. There is a lot you can learn from using it. Do not let a few bad apples ruin it for you. Keep your stuff up to date and you too can have a nice time on the internet everyday. After all, most people use it everyday now anyway.
