For most of human history, nudity was a natural and normal part of life. People stayed nude as long as the environment and other conditions favored it. The "Bathing Suit" was only invented about a century ago. Only after the advent of scientific advancement and industrialization that humans began to be ashamed of their bodies. The culture of nudism began to take shape.
During the nineteenth century, the culture of nudism began as a self help reform movement in reaction to the debilitating aspects of industrialization and urbanization. This was a time when medicine could neither explain nor cure disease and many believed that crowded and unsanitary cities, tenement housing, restrictive Victorian clothing, and oppressive working conditions all led to poor health and rampant illness. It was said that what people needed was exposure to the natural healing elements of fresh air, sunlight, and water, without the misery of clothing. Experimental clubs opened in Germany and later in France and England as places where people could practice their natural lifestyle without outside interference. Again, turning the face of the culture of nudism.
Though many today’s times, nudity is even more popular among teens. Although unless you are above a certain age, you cannot get into a private resort for nudism. Teenagers, however have found that they feel more comfortable naked.
Here in America, the culture of nudism has opened up people’s eyes through T.V., movies, and magazines. Many teenagers face pressures growing up from peers about drugs and smoking. Also they get pressure from teachers and parents about grades. Most teenagers today have found that nudism is a relaxing, free feeling that they otherwise, do not get to feel. Though most (even adults) have not made the division between the concept of sex and harmless nudity.
Most believe that nudism is only practiced by adults, which is not true. The culture of nudism has taken a whole new turn in the 21st century. On the internet, there have been sites made of photos, which include who families, young children, teens, and entire families enjoying the benefits of nude recreation. This is not pornography, as many would believe.
These websites provide a very healthy and positive outlook of the nudist lifestyle. Nudism is in no way shape, or form about showing off or “parading around naked” as so many would believe it to be. It’s about freedom of choice and relaxation in a rough time when trying to distinguish between sex and nudity. Life society today teaches that nudity is a bad, shameful and also indecent.
Nudism is believed to be a healthy lifestyle for just about everyone who is interested in it, regardless of age or background. When you and the surrounding people are nude, the atmosphere becomes much more friendly and tolerant.
The human body is realized to be a part of nature and therefore is nothing to be ashamed of. When you are nude, you not longer have anything to hide behind. All that’s left is a sense of freedom which most feel is very amazing.
Nudity is something to be proud of if you are proud of it. I personally do not believe that women and men should go to the grocery store nude, and it’s not because I don’t believe in freedom. It’s because of our failing world, the rapists and murders. A rapist may feel a woman who is naked is free grabs and therefore his to take. As sad as that is, that is how the world works today.
