Wild Strawberries was a great film for Ingmar Bergman, and it grabbed him several awards. First it is worth mentioning that this film won the Golden Bear for Best Film. This award was presented at the Berlin International Film Festival. We cannot forget to mention that this movie also got Ingmar Bergman nominated for an Academy Award for Writing An Original Screen Play. By many critics, Wild Strawberries, was thought to be the best movie Bergman ever wrote. This is quite a honor for Mr. Bergman because Wild Strawberries was written extremely early in his career. There are not many directors or writers that can claim that they had one of their greatest masterpieces at the start of their career, instead of at the end. Wild Strawberries has also been listed on many must see movie lists and also included on the Vatican Best Films List. It was put on these lists for its unique way that it portrayed certain life values and midlife crisis's that everyone eventually goes through.
It is very refreshing to see a movie made that early in time that is still looked upon with fond eyes today. A lot of older movies kind of get lost below the radar and are forgotten about. Wild Strawberries will not become one of those movies. With such great actors and actresses such as Gunnar Bjornstrand, Bibi Anderson, and Ingrid Thulin; it is so easy to see why it became such an instant classic. I, myself, am a huge fan of movies in general, even though classic movies (ones that are in black and white) do not usually appeal to me as much as new movies do. That is not the case with Wild Strawberries. This movie was such an instant classic that I feel that it appeals to both young and old audiences alike. If you are a fan of great movies, or a person who has to see all the classics, then waste no time in running out to your local movie store and pick up your copy of Wild Strawberries today. You will not be sorry you did.
