So here you are hosting another party, perhaps a birthday bash or a sleepover event, and the question has arisen what activities to have on hand for the young ones. One of the myths that need to be dispelled early on is the nonsensical idea that boys do not enjoy dressing up. Nothing could be further from the truth! Of course, when boys are involved, the kids dress up games will be different than if you are entertaining a gaggle of little girls. Girls dressing up with result in a room full of kids dressing up as princesses, fashion stars, or glamorous singers. If there are boys in the crowd however, be prepared top see the childrens dressing up as cowboys, Indians, firefighters, kung fu enthusiasts, and perhaps even more outlandish costume concoctions such as aliens! In short, do not hesitate to bring out the trunk of clothes whether you are hosting a party for boys or girls; kids dress up games will be a surefire win for all involved! Yet what games can they play?
If you are hosting a group of girls, prepare in advance by asking each girl to bring at least two clothes items to the party. One item should be specifically in keeping with a certain theme, such as princess, mermaid, nurse, doctor, veterinarian, or any other kind of theme you think the girls might enjoy. The other item should be something very different from the selected theme. Have all the girls pool their dress up clothes and then assign the tasks for them to pick and choose from the pile of clothes those that best fit the theme. As they are preparing to begin, tell the children dressing up that they may not choose the item they brought. Instead, they must choose from the pile that the other children brought. Keep it age appropriate; for example, don't expect a group of little four year olds to be able to discern veterinary clothes and accessories from those of a nurse. If you have boys playing this game, simply change the theme to be more appealing to them.
Should you happen to already have an extensive collection of dress up clothes at your home, the kids dress up games you will be able to host may take on an additional facet: performance! For example, if the kids dressing up at your house will most likely all enjoy dressing up as ballerinas, and if you have enough tutus and crowns to go around, you may wish to consider practicing and hosting your only little stage play. For the winter time, Frosty the Snowman is a wonderful little vignette to act out in a ballet-like fashion. For boys who could not care less about ballet, there is always the option of playing superhero dress up.
For those who are less willing and familiar with the hands on kids dress up games that are so popular with children today, there is also another alternative that is quite often overlooked: dress up dolls! Indeed, these dolls have withstood the test of time and are now available in every shape, size and color. Similarly, they are available for every occasion. Many may be store bought with reusable stickers to allow for hours of play. Others permit for fun at kids dress up games by using magnetic figures where clothes can be added and taken off. Whatever you may decide for your party; be sure to include the dress up games which are oodles of fun for everyone involved!
