Added: 09/21/2006

The city of Brandenton, Florida has a lot to offer. In addition to being the hometown of the Tropicana Orange Juice company, Maria Sharapova, Sean Connery, Dick Vitale (aka Mr. College) and tennis great Max Myryni, Bradenton has a number of wonderful beaches and Florida communities in it's midst. Check out why this city located between Florida's Tampa Bay and the city of Sarasota is one southern gem.

Bradenton History

When Spanish navigator Hernando de Soto discovered the city of Bradenton, in Manatee County of Florida, he probably didn't know that he was settling on a little piece of the Florida state America dream. Bradenton, Florida was named after a local doctor, Joseph Bradenton. Dr. Brandenton won city acclaim for offering his home as a sanctuary for early Brandenton settlers who were under attack from some of the local Native Americans.

Bradenton Exposed

Just a hop and a skip away from the famous Florida city of St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Florida is a star in it's own right-and it's got the famous city residents to prove it. Some of Bradenton's most notorious residents include veteran actor and Mr. Bond, James Bond himself, Sean Connery, tennis players Max Myryni, Jelena Jankovic, and American sportscaster, Dick Vitale, affectionately known as Mr. College. Another famous face that you might see around Brandenton is nineteen year old tennis phenom, Maria Sharpova. Maria is not only a former champion of Wimbledon, but she is the highest paid female athlete in the Western Hemisphere.

If you know Florida oranges, you'll love Bradenton. In addition to being home to a number of big screen bigwigs and athletic giants, Bradenton, Florida is also the hometown of the Tropicana Products orange juice franchise. Tropicana plays a major role in bringing more than eight hundred jobs to the city of Bradenton-not to mention all of the lush and tasty orange juice that comes from having the King of OJ so close by.

In reality, most Bradenton, Florida residents are just average Joes and Janes. The average median income per year is just $34,902. That average yearly income goes up a bit for families capping off at $42,366. Many of the more than fifty thousand residents of Bradenton, Florida enjoy making the scenic trek across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge into St. Petersburg. And with Bradenton, Florida being sandwiched just between neighboring sunny cities of Tampa and Sarasota, with the latter having a strong sun and surf mentality, a Bradenton beach outing is never too far away.

But the city of Bradenton, Florida is divided into a variety of little sections that makes getting around and finding something to do right at home a cinch indeed. In fact, some of the Bradenton area beaches were ranked as some of the most outstanding in America.

Bradenton Beach

The Intracostal Waterway separates the mainland city of Bradenton from the outer tropical style islands of Anna Maria and Longboat Key. The city of Bradenton Beach is located on the island of Anna Maria, and the islans' major attraction is, well, Bradenton beach. The city of Bradenton Beach is located on the southern end of the Anna Maria island, which also serves as the southern entrance into Tampa Bay, Florida just along the United States Gulf Coast.

The city of Bradenton Beach features two gorgeous sugar sand beaches for the town's fifteen hundred residents and visitors from Sarasota, St. Petersburh, Tampa and Brandenton to enjoy. Cortez and Coquina are both famous for sun, surf and vast water rides.
