The Actress Known As Emily Watson

If you are looking of one of the best English actresses, look no further than Emily Watson. This Oscar nominated actress was born January 14, 1967 in Islington, London, England. It was not until Lars von Trier chose her for his starring role in "Breaking the Waves", that she became noticed. Unfortunately for Emily Watson, she had a bad habit of turning down roles that turned out to be Academy Award winning spots and losing the credit for the film. Overall, she is still a fantastic actress who had just a little bit of a hard time trying to choose which films to star in.
Emily Watson was born the daughter of an architect and a English professor in London, England. This soon to be great actress study at Drama Studio London, where she picked up the skills necessary to be a great on stage performer. This help set the stage for her to get the foot in the door to begin her acting career. Unfortunately for her, this great talent that she had on stage went unnoticed for quite sometime. If fact it was not until director Lars von Trier cast Emily Watson to start in his film Braking the Waves that she really got noticed. Even then, Emily Watson was not Lars first choice to play the part in the movie. The role was suppose to go to Helena Bonham Carter, but she dropped out after further reading her role in the film. The main star of this film had to play Bess McNeill, who was a simple women who becomes a prostitute after her husband because paralyzed. She believe that it could help save her husband. The sheer plot to the role is the whole reason Helena Carter dropped out. This would be Emily Watson's first time in front of the camera. Of course it turn out to be great, and was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 1996. Because of this film, Emily Watson went on to win the Los Angeles, New York, and London Critics Circle Award. She also got an Oscar nmination for Best Actress for the same film. Talk about jump starting your career.

In 1995 Emily Watson was at the Royal Shakespeare Company and meet Jack Waters. Emily Watson and Jack end up to get married. Then almost ten years later Emily gives birth to their daughter Juliet. This happen back in autumn of 2005. I think the name of their daughter is suppose to have meaning to where Emily Watson and Jack Waters first meet. Not all would be smooth sailing for Emily Watson. She would end up passing up the role of a life time. Jean-Pierra Jeunet wrote the lead character for Emily Watson in Amelie (which was originally titled Emily). Watson choose to pass up the role because she did not want to work in French, and have to be away from home. The role was then passed on to Audrey Tautou, and she went on to be a international super star. Then the same thing would happen in the movie Elizabeth. Shekhar Kapur wanted Emily Watson to play the role of Elizabeth I, but aging she turn it down. The role got passed on to Cate Blanchett and it when on to make her a star. Fool be once, shame on your, fool me twice shame on me. You would think after the way she got her first role (with the main actress turning down the role) she would learn to take big roles like these. Instead she gave them up and made other people bigger starts today then she is.

Overall, Emily Watson is still a great actress. You can take what she has done away from her. She does have a really bad habit of giving up the role of a lifetime. Two of the movies she turn down, turn out to be block busters and make the people who took her role super stars. Of course had she been the one to play the part, it would of gave a different feel to the movie, and maybe the movie would have been viewed differently. Emily Watson will still go on to be a great actress.
