Volver is one of those movies that you can not say enough good things about it. First, you can tell how much people loved this movie because of all the awards it was up for. It was nominated at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. Both times it was up for best actress, and one time it was up there twice (this happen at the Golden Globes). When you have actors and actress that put this much into their roles, then you have a great movie on your hands. Of course, fans love the movie too, because it got a Certified Fresh rating from the critics at Rotten Tomatoes. There the movie got a score of 91% from the critics, as well as the same score from the fan votes. You do not get many movies that score better than a 91%. This movie did great in the box office as well, which is not always the case for great movies. In the Untied States alone it made over 12 million dollars after only 26 weeks. That was only for the Untied States, in the rest of the world it made over 71 million. Out of all the movies it was said to gross (after cost to make it) well over 84 million dollars, 12 million of that came from the Spanish Box Offices.

Volver itself was a different movie. It has to do with ghosts having issues to resolve before they part to the other side. If you translate the word Volver in Spanish it means “to return,” which I feel is very fitting for this movie. In the movie, the mother died and then comes back to talk to her two daughters. One of the girls dislikes her mother, and this is the reason why the mother comes back. She wants to set things right before she moves on. Because one of the girls hates the mother, the mom only talks to the other daughter that does not hate her. In the mean time, the mother helps that daughter take care of her shop. The mom helps the daughter shampoo her customers hair. To do this she poses as a Russian women that does not understand Spanish. The movie goes on to throw other curve balls at you, but it will keep you at the edge of your seat the whole time. Volver is a movie that you will want to see. It is a little different from the other movies that are out on the market today, and I feel that is what makes it such a good movie.

If you have not yet seen Volver, then I suggest going out to get it. The movie only came out a year ago, so it should be fairly easy to find at your local movie store. Any movie that gets this many awards needs to be seen. I feel like it is a fresh take on an idea. Most movies seem to be about the same thing over and over, and if they do have a different idea it usually is not a good one. This is a movie that can help you break away from the movies you see all the time. Do not let this different storyline scare you away, you should give it a try. I feel that you will love the movie after you give it a try. Most movies you only watch one time and that is good enough for anybody. This is a movie that you may want to watch more than once. This is because it has a lot of detail in it, and you may miss something the first time through the movie. So go out and rent this movie tonight, you will be happy you did.
