Being a teenager can be a confusing time, especially with all the physical changes going on in your body, that are also accompanied by new and strange emotions. This is however just the tip of the iceberg as there are many teenage issues that plague teens everyday. One of these personals in a teenager's life is pregnancy.
It is clear that curiosity about sex is an issue that many teenagers are faced with. If, however, the teens are not properly educated in this issue, it can cause a social catastrophe, which is known as teenage pregnancy.
The ever-increasing number of teenage pregnancy is a clear indication that we as a society are really not fulfilling our duties properly or perhaps we do it incorrectly. There is a pit-hole that has not yet been covered up, and many teenagers will keep falling blindly into it. We have to at least try to stop it as it can be seen as an epidemic.
Teen pregnancies stories will not deter teens from getting pregnant if used as a scare tactic. It is in the education about sex that might help decrease teen pregnancy. Although many might argue that sex education is a catalyst behind teen pregnancy and only abstinence might combat it more effectively. That however is an ideology fit for an ideal world and society, and we all know that we do not live in neither.
Sex is something that can be beautiful and wonderful if shared by two people who understand that this beauty comes with a great responsibility. It is the not knowing; proper and honest answer that parents give their teens prevents them from falling in the pit-hole of teen pregnancy.
Many people aren't aware that if they use sex as a scare tactic it will only increase teen pregnancies. It only fuels the curiosity of the teenagers if they are told that if you have sex it can have detrimental effects on your life. Schools are also trying to decrease the rate of teenage pregnancy but to no avail, since this is still a growing phenomenon amongst teenagers.
Teenager pregnancy could also be seen as an education tool. That is - if you make irresponsible decisions when it comes to sex you could also find yourself in those shoes.
Sex need not be duplicated as the enemy in trying to combat teen pregnancy. Instead the irresponsibility and recklessness of having unprotected sex should be the highlighted issue. That is the best education we can give our teenagers so that they don't fall in the statistics of teen pregnancy.
The logical conclusion that a teenager makes is: if sex is so bad then why are so many people having it? The adverse affects of sex miseducation are that it leads to sexual abuse. In the sense that more teens will have unprotected sex. Thereby creating a reckless, selfless society.
Let us treat our teens as adults by informing and arming them with the correct knowledge. And only then will change start taking effect. Reality is that they will have sex whether we as parents want to acknowledge it or not. At least let us know that we did our part and they were informed and it was their choice. They are not animals, after all, and we cannot train them to be exactly what we want them to be.
