Style and Personal AppearanceBeing in fashion, keep up to date on trends, style of clothing, what's considered in and what's considered passé, in other words paying attention to personal appearance can help attract a partner. Aside from impressing a prospective date by being impeccably groomed, whether a man or a woman, it can also serve to announce availability. Of course if you are someone who doesn't conform and are looking for someone of a like mind keeping up your own unique personal appearance is useful as well. Our mode and style of dress, how we groom and decorate ourselves our appearance form speaks volumes about who we are and what we're looking for.
While style of clothing chosen can play a major role in how a prospective date is viewed, personal appearance can be deceiving. Over the past few decades it's become increasingly stereotypical for a man who cares about his grooming, products used and exhibits what is considered a feminine acuity in a fashion sense to be automatically labeled as gay. This isn't always the case but it's such an issue with some people, and we are after all a society of labelers, that the descriptive term metrosexual was coined. Basically the term refers to men who indulge in pampering, take care of their bodies with creams, lotions and other products considered appropriate for women and homosexuals only, have expensive hair cuts, wear jewelry and fashionable designer, expensive clothes. The term metrosexual is also occasionally used to describe women who although not lesbians, dress and groom themselves in a stereotypically lesbian manner.
Sexuality and personal appearance are so interlinked within the mental and physical fabric of our society that the mere mention of a certain style of clothing of a time period brings to mind a picture denoting the fashion of those times.
Paying attention to personal appearance within the realm of fashion can make all the difference in the world regarding the sexual message given out. Whether choosing to conform to the rigors of societal decrees or not, the style of clothing chosen and appearance form displayed will most likely differ given the circumstances involved. Depending on how suggestive, demur, aggressive, innocent, or empowered an individual feels along with the present day style of dress determines how closely or how loosely ones adheres to fashion. Making a "fashion statement" is often beyond the scope of someone who is shy and retiring and while their personal appearance may be quite up to date they will probably attract someone who is more retiring as well. Even within the fashion trends of the day there are gradations just as there are with anything and chosen appearance form will affect personal appearance.
Sexuality and personal appearance are so integrally linked together in most people's minds that mode of dress can make all the difference in the world when interacting with a prospective partner. Individual personal appearance and style can also, while being trendy and in keeping with the style of the time, be expressed in unique ways specific to the unique person who seeks a variation on the appearance form that everybody else is purveying.
