Though this city is the third largest city in Illinois, it is know as "The Forest City". The city is located on both banks of the Rock River and provides beautiful scenery for all to see. The city was first settled in 1834 and got its name from the low water crossing located there. This ford allows for easy crossing of the Rock River. The cities nickname “The Forest City”, came from the abundance of Elm trees once located there. There are still large areas of trees and forestry located in this city. This botanical garden and arboretum covers 150 acres and is filled with rare types of trees and shrubbery. However, there are many forest preserves located in Rockford, IL.

It is the Aldeen Golf Course and a good place for any golfer to spend the day.
