Some Classic Friend Quotes

Your friends can be a great source of companionship, comfort, and even joy. My friends also happen to be a great source of some pretty interesting quotes. Some of them are interesting and some of them are extremely funny but all of them stay with me to this day. Through the years I have acquired many friends but only a select few stick around for the long haul of life and become my closest circle of friends. As time goes by they may move away and we don't get to see each other as often, but their words will always ring in my ears.

I consider David to be a dear friend of mine. Over the years we have kind of grown apart. We both married and he moved off to the big city to chase a career as a high pressure sales executive. I decided to stay, with my new wife, in our little hometown away from the big city and do my writing thing. But for years David and I were inseparable. We were both single and we had very similar interests. We both loved music and we both loved sports. One of the sports we would play constantly when we were single was golf. David and I loved to golf. One day we decided to play one of the local courses that is a little more difficult to get a tee time at. Our tee time was very early, maybe 6:30am, but that was the way we liked it. As we are playing our round of golf, and riding around in the golf cart, we would make observations of the day just to make conversation. We approached a small pond near which David’s ball had landed. The pond is in the middle of the golf course and is surrounded by nothing but grass. There is no forest within this golf course but there are, however, huge trees that line the course and try to keep the outside world from invading the privacy of the golf course. As we pull the cart up to David’s ball he stops the cart and looks towards the trees that line the golf course. He ponders for a moment and then asks “I wonder what kind of plant that is?” I looked towards the direction he was looking and responded “They’re trees David.” To this day I still laugh out loud when I think about that morning. What David was referring to was the smoke stack just beyond the trees and he was wondering what types of manufacturing went on at the plant that was on the other side of the trees. But I didn’t see the smoke stack until we got to the next tee and, by then, I was laughing way too hard to care.

Friends are awesome. I have some classic friend quotes that probably deserve to be cataloged somewhere. Friend quotes that would make Henny Youngman proud. Friend quotes that could be classic one liners in any action movie. In the course of conversation with many of my friends I find that it is these little sound bites that I sometimes remember most of all.

When I was much younger I remember a friend quote that sticks with me to this day. It is a sort of corny thing to say but the girl that said it was only a young teenager at the time and I thought, and still think, it is pretty insightful. She said “I love animals so much more than people because animals can’t hurt you with their words.” I thought about that and I wondered about the person that would say something like that. Perhaps there was a deeper meaning to it. Maybe she was someone that was verbally abused. I never found out and I lost touch with that person. But that is one of the friend quotes that stays with me to this day.
Sometimes your friends can offer your more insight, or humor, than any writer or comedian can come up with. If you pay close attention to your friends you will find that each and every person has something to offer and that something just may stay with you for the rest of your life.
