Slap Shot, A Movie By George Roy Hill

Now I am not a fan of hockey by any means, however, the movie called Slap Shot was very good, and the whole plot was about hockey. Now when you hear the name Slap Shot I guess you may already think of hockey, after all that is a hockey term. However, this movie is set in a time where hockey was all about the violence of the sport. People really did not come to see hockey, they came to see people fight it out. This is a different take on a hockey movie, and I have never seen one done like this before.

Slap Shot is a 1977 movie about hockey. Now I know, unless you are a fan of hockey this movie does not sound right for you. Well let me just say that I am not a fan of hockey, and I enjoyed this movie a lot. In fact, this movie had everything going against it for me to not like it. First of all, I do not like hockey movies. I mean, I do not even like to watch it on TV. Why would I like it in a movie? When I was a kid I did not even like the hit film The Mighty Ducks. Second of all, I do not usually like older films. Now 1977 is not that old of a movie, however, it is getting up there everyday. So why did I choose to watch this movie? Well I had heard a lot about this movie, and it had Paul Newman in it. I figured if Paul Newman was in it, it could not be that bad. Also, it was based on a book that got a lot of positive reviews. As you can see, it had the two major things that you need to make a good movie. It had a good plot and a great actor, however, could it pull it all together? I must say for being a hockey film it was really good. The book that the movie was based on was by Nancy Dowd. She had written a movie about her brothers life in minor league hockey in the United States. This is a neat idea because it did take a lot to get people into hockey in the United States. However, it is a great movie, and a must see. Slap Shot is one of the only hockey movies that I would watch again.

I guess I like the movie Slap Shot for a few different reasons. First of all, it is more about the violence of hockey in the United States. In fact, that was one of the few reasons why people really enjoyed watching hockey when it first came out. It was not because of the sport itself, but because of how violent the game was. So to understand what this movie was about you have to know what Nancy Dowd's book was about. As said before, it was based on her brothers life in minor league hockey. Her brother lived during the time when the violence was the selling point of the sport. However, he calls his sister one day and tells her about his team being for sale. When she asks her brother who owns the team right now, he said that he did not know. After that she wrote a book about it. I always think that books do better when they are built on things that really happened. So the movie Slap Shot had to do good because it was based on a great book. Now I know that you still may not be happy with the idea that Slap Shot is about hockey. However, if you just give the movie a try I think that you will be impressed with what you see. After all, if it is a movie that got me to like it then I think that you will too. I worked in the box office for many years and have seen a lot of movies. A lot of the movies that came out I was very hard on them. However, this was one of the few movies that I did like.

Slap Shot sets out to reach a goal, and it reaches it by the end of the movie. There are no holes in the plot; the story is easy to follow. It is just an overall good film, and that is what some movies need to be. After all, so many people are always trying to make movies so hard to follow. They are always trying to make movies that have to have a wow factor. However, Slap Shot is not one of those movies and is just an all around good time. I think it is a must see for you. It is like no other movie that you have seen.
