Sex Positive Feminism is Sexy

Added: 11/29/2007

Human beings have fascinating lives. We like to work and to play. Part of playing involves engaging in a bit of sexual intimacy and sexual pleasure now and then. Some people like simple sex and other people enjoy more complex a sexual; games. Did you know that sometimes sex and social movements go together very nicely?

Human beings lead fantastic lives. We are very complex creatures because we both like to work and play all in the same day. Part of the play element in our lives can and often does include engaging in some sexual intimacy and sexual pleasure from time to time. Many people enjoy simple sex which is often called “vanilla sex”. In addition, some people enjoy engaging in more complex sex and this type of sex is often called “chocolate sex.” In fact, many couples do like to use foods such as chocolate as a part of their sexual exploration, sexual intimacy, and sexual pleasure. All people would probably agree that sexual pleasure and sexual intimacy is a vital and necessary part of life. After all without sex, the human race would cease to exist. However, achieving true sexual intimacy and true sexual pleasure requires much passion and intensity. Passion and intensity also is required when working on a social movement such as the Civil Rights Movement and the Women’s Right’s Movement. In fact, sex, intensity, passion, and power went into a category of feminism called sex positive feminism. Let’s talk about this social movement that is called sexual positive feminism.

The social movement called sex positive feminism is sometimes referred to as pro sex feminism or as sexually liberal feminism. This movement started in the early 1980s as an outcry of the efforts of anti pornography feminists such as Andrea Dworkin and Robin Morgan who attempted to place pornography at the center of the feminist explanation for women’s oppression through the decades. This battle between the two camps of anti pornography and sex positive feminists was labeled the “Feminist Sex Wars.” Here are some key ingredients and some ideas about sex positive feminism.

It is very important to understand that this social movement centers on the notion that sexual freedom is an essential ingredient of women’s freedom. Due to this fact, sex positive feminists oppose any legal or social efforts to control sexual adventures and activities between consenting adults. Therefore, sex positive feminism stands firmly behind sexual minority groups like homosexuals, bisexuals, transgender, and cross dressers. In short, the social movement called sex positive feminism doesn’t tolerate any sexual negativity. It is also very important to remember that the social movement of feminism, in general and sex positive feminism, in particular came out of a perceived need to look at the aftermath of the 1960s which saw its share of a greater sexual freedom amongst both young and old people worldwide. In addition, it is interesting to note that the cause named sex positive feminism encompasses many different types of activists such as anti censor activists, feminist scholars, LGBT activists, and producers of both pornography and erotica. Did you know that sex positive feminists abhor the vilification of male sexuality that may be at the root of the entire feminism movement and instead they embrace the entire gambit of human sexuality? Therefore, it seems like sex positive feminists would be on board with mixing sexual intimacy and sexual pleasure of any kind with chocolate or ice cream or wearing role playing costumes while having sex. Sex positive feminism sounds fun, educational, and sexy.
