Setting Up And Playing "What If"

Added: 07/19/2007

If you have ever been sitting around with your friends and or family and everyone is feeling a bit bored, the answer can be as simple as a game. Games are not just for children, everyone can join in on the fun. One of the keys is to set up a fun game and just begin playing; even those who baulk at first will soon find themselves laughing it up. A great game to play when your looking for fun and a bonding experience is called What If. This can also be a great way to get to know your sweetie a bit better.

There are two reasons that most people will decide it will be fun to play a game. One is if you are sitting around with friend or family and everyone is tired of the same old thing. Watching movies can be fun, eating is always enjoyable, however every now and then it can mix things up and create a lot of fun to play a game. A game such as What If requires no money; only a willingness to be open and an attitude that a person does not need to be serious every second.

Others play games because it can be a great way to get to know a new person in your life or to learn more about someone that you already know. Many will argue that while the majority of people can say that they know someone, when it comes down to it, they may not really and truly know them. When a person feels that they know someone, what they actually “know” is only what they have been shown. Unless a certain situation arises and a person sees how the other person reacts or interacts, they cannot say for certain that they “know” someone. The game of What If can close that bridge and create a bond; playing this game can give you insight into another person that you may have never thought of before. Many couples will find that they will most undoubtedly learn something new of their lover before the game of What If is done.

To play What If is very simple. You may know what your friend likes to eat or what their favorite movie is, but this game will ask questions that may be difficult to ask unless you are playing the game. This game gives you the perfect opportunity to ask questions and learn things about the other players that you may never otherwise have a chance to.

It is best if everyone who is going to play is given some paper and a writing instrument. The goal is to write at least ten questions. When writing down potential questions, you will want to be sure to think of interesting questions that you actually really wish the answer to. Questions can be very tricky sometimes. One of the most popular questions is to have a person name two people that they care about the most. The question will be, “If those two people where in desperate need of help, which one would you, help first?” When asking questions such as this, remember that you will need to be able to handle hearing the answer even if you do not like what you hear. If you react with anger, it will obviously ruin the game. The goal of the game is to learn more about the other players. Questions can be as simple as asking what someone would do if they won the lottery to asking a questions such as , “If you saw that your boss was stealing something from the office, would you report him or her, even if it may impact your job?”. Questions such as this will really get others thinking.

You should try to keep an open mind and get as create as you can. With adults, the more risqué and daring the questions, the more interesting the game will be. When a couple is playing together, this can be a great opportunity to ask questions that you may otherwise be too shy to ask. You can ask “What if” they could have any fantasy that they wanted or you can ask “what if” they had a chance to cheat with any famous celebrities, who would it be? Just remember, it is a game and the answers should be taken as such.

Once you have your questions written down, all questions are then placed in a container. You may use a hat, a box, a vase or some other type of container in which the questions can be mixed up. You may select one person who reads the questions and each person must take turns answering that question or you may simply go around in turn. The majority of the time, once a question is read, everyone must answer that question.
