Scarlett Johansson - An actress and a singerA good actress and a good musician is Scarlett Johansson. Born on the 22nd of November 1984, this American actress shot to fame with the role she played in the movie ‘The Horse Whisper’ in the year 1998. Scarlett Johansson started as an early actress. Her mother used to take her to auditions even as she was a child and her debut film was ‘North’ in the year 1994 when she was barely 10 years old.
In 2004 Scarlett Johansson was invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to join them. In 2004 she also acted in the movies ‘the Perfect score’, ‘In Good Company’, ‘A Love Song for Bobby Long’. This was followed by ‘The Island’ by Michael Bay with Ewan McGregor. This was an outright action movie and the first of this sort for her. This was followed by another (fourth) Golden Globe nomination for the best supporting actress for her role in Wooden Allen’s drama ‘Match Point’.
In January 2006 Scarlett Johansson was seen hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’. She acted in a short film called ‘When the Deal Goes Down…’. ‘The Prestige’ is a thriller Johansson has acted in. She returned to appear in Saturday Night Live once again in April 2007.
Her latest film is ‘The Nanny Diaries’ which was released in August 2007 and she stars along with Alicia Keys. Another movie which is on the making is ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ along with Eric Bana and Natalie Portman. Another Woody Allen movie which is also in the making is his ‘Untitled Spanish Project’.
Scarlett Johansson comes from a film background. Her mother Melanie Sloan is a producer and comes from a Jewish American family. Her father Karsten Johansson is an Architect. Her paternal grandfather Ejner Johansson was also a successful screenwriter and Director. Johansson has a older sister, Vanessa and two half brothers who are twins. Her sister is an actress and one of her twin half brother is also an actor. She has some more projects up her sleeves. She has been cast to Femme Fatale a Frank Miller’s comedy against Gabriel Macht. The production of the movie is expected to have started in October 2007. ‘Queen of Scots’ is a movie where she plays Mary is expected to start its production in March 2008. She will be soon seen as a pilates instructor in the movie ‘He’s just not that into you’ along with Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore. Produced by Barrymore this movie is to be directed by Ken Kwapis.
Scarlett Johansson has also sung the track “summertime” for ‘Unexpected Dreams – songs from the stars’. This is an album recorded by Hollywood actors. Scarlett was seen performing with ‘the Jesus and Mary Chain’ for a special show in Indio, California in the year 2007. This year saw her recording for an album named ‘Scarlett sings Tom waits’. This is basically Scarlett’s version of Tom Waits’ songs. She is also seen Bob Dylan’s ‘When the Deal Goes Down’ a music video and in “What goes around../… comes around. The latter was nominated for MTV Video Music Awards for the year in august 2007.
