Rock It Out With Velvet Goldmine

If you are looking for one of the greatest movies ever directed from Todd Haynes, then you need to check out Velvet Goldmine. This is a movie written back in 1998, that tells the story of a pop music star. The charter is mainly believed to be based on David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and is set in Britain. The movie is based around the time when glam rock was big, which was around the 1970's. This was a great movie for the time period it was released in, and I think it is worth taking a look at if you have never seen it.
If you love movies that are based on music signers, the Velvet Goldmine is for you. Although the movie is not a true story, people believe that it is based on David Bowie. Some also say they think it could also be talking about Mare Bolan and Brain Eno. If this is true, it would only slightly be based off those two singers, for it really does have more to do with David Bowie's life and the way that he acted. Do keep in mind, although it may be based on David Bowie, this is not a movie about him. It is a piece of fiction. Another thing that I enjoy about this movie is the time period that it is set in. The movie takes place back in the 1970's which was a great time for music as a whole. The soundtrack to this movie is a great one and reminds me of some of the CD's that are music sets, like when you buy a music CD that is the greatest hits of the 70's. That is what the soundtrack to this movie brings to mind when I think of it.

The story to Velvet Goldmine is a great one which, as I said, seems to have a lot to do with David Bowie's character Ziggy Stardust. In Velvet Goldmine you follow British journalist Arthur Stewart (who is played by Christian Bale, who also started in Batman Begins). The movie is about Arthur trying to write an article about the disappearance of rock star Brian Slade. He is writing this article for an American periodical. Velvet Goldmine pretty much takes David Bowie's paranoia of being murdered while performing on stage (which he talks about in Ziggy Stardust), and turns it into a career ending publicity stunt by Brian Slade. After which, Brian Slade really does disappear form the public eye all together. Velvet Goldmine takes you and Arthur down a long forgotten road from the 1970's as he searches for the truth of what happen to Brian Slade. It really is a very well told story that will keep you going to the very end. This is what people need in movies now-a-days. We need to have a movie that is going to stand out to us and make us want to watch it. It is great that this movie came out in 1998 before we were seeing a lack of good movies. Now-a-days we have seen it all, and it is very hard to impress people with new ideas, Velvet Goldmine does just that. It aims to please, and it does.

If you have not seen Velvet Goldmine, I strongly suggest going out and getting it. This is a movie that you do not want to miss. The good news is if you have not seen it yet, chances are you will be able to find it in your local movie store, because it is almost ten years old now. This does not mean it is not a good movie, because it is. What it does mean, is that most people have already seen it. The only people who rent it now are the people who missed this great movie the first time and the people who love it so much that they keep renting it even though they have seen it. This tends to happen when you got a great movie like Velvet Goldmine. Not only does it have a great story line to move it, but it has great actors too. Christian Bale has proven time and time aging that he will deliver every time he gets on the big screen. Also Todd Haynes does a great job of directing in this amazing film. If you have not seen it yet, waste no more time and go get it now.
