Feminism has progressed greatly over the ages. During the 19th and early 20th centuries the focus of the feminist movement was on gaining the right of women to vote. When that came in the 1920's, feminism had to take on a new form, hence the Second Wave which gained prominence during the 1970's. It has advanced once again: the creation of Third Wave feminism in the 1990's.
