From the ancient times down the ages, women have been subject to inhuman brutality, and often the act of forceful physical intercourse with them has been adopted as a viable weapon. It is this saga of oppression that has infused women to always struggle to gain equality, respect, and the same rights as men. Well, there have been several reasons behind this, the most prominent of which is the patriarchal system, the insignia of an ideology in which it is a rule that men are superior to women and also have the right to rule women. Since the 1960's the women's rights movement has had a lot of success in gaining some fundamental rights for women in the United States. Great strides have been made in political equality and significant advances have been made in economic equality. There are still a number of stereotypes that continue to hold women back from further advances. Only good, solid scientific research will be able to undermine these stereotypes.
