One of the worst labels people can think of to throw at a woman who expresses radical feminist ideas is "lesbian"! (or more commonly, "dyke"!). I've seen women back away from feminist ideals and principles to avoid having people assume they are gay. I've even belonged to a few gay rights organizations that wanted to "tone down" female issues for fear that people might think we were a bunch of feminists. And if you think being either a lesbian or a feminist is hard, try being both at once!
