One of the most important social movements in the history of the United States and in fact the entire world is that of feminism. While the origins of feminism in truth date back to pre-history, when we usually speak of feminism we are speaking about the movement that began during the 19th century. One of the major early issues was that of women's suffrage, although the movement has greatly grown since then.

In 2007, history was made when the first woman was named Speaker of the House of the United States Congress. It is hard to imagine that just under ninety years ago, women at the time were fighting to simply have the right to vote in this country. These are accomplishments that feminist throughout history have been fighting for. The history of feminism illustrates these struggles and documents the accomplishments along the way.
