Racquetball Is The Best Exercise

Added: 11/22/2007

What is racquetball? Racquetball is a racquet sport that is played with a rubber ball, both in an indoor or outdoor court. The sport was invented by one Joe Sobek in the year1948, by means of incorporating rules from two sports, squash and handball. However, unlike most of the other racquet sports, that include tennis or bandminton, the court's walls, floor, and ceiling are legal playing surfaces, in place of out-of-bounds.

In short, racquetball is played between two opposing players, but there can be the existence of three- and four-player variations. When racquetball is played, in whatever variations, at the same time there is also the presence of separate rules and regulations for each variation. For instance, two-player games are called singles or "one-up" (1-on-1 for the entire game); three-player games are called "Ironman" or "Cut-throat" (2-on-1 for the entire game) wherein each player take turns serving to the other two; the "California" variation is a 3-player game wherein it is played as a three-way singles game, except that the player losing the point remains in the back court while the other two play the next point; the four-player game is called "doubles" and played as teams. Since racquetball is an ideal combination of exercise and enjoyment it tends to provide great workout by helping a lot to increase stamina, lower body fat level, improve muscle tone and burn about 700 calories from the body. In some way or the other, racquetball is undoubtedly and through more propagation has become one of the most strenuous cardiovascular workouts available at present. Again, on the other hand, there is no doubt in it, that racquetball looks like a daunting sport to play with the ball bouncing heavily in a closed court. But with the right racquetball equipment, racquets, gloves, balls, clubs, supplies, and most of all attitudes, the game becomes a fun albeit challenging experience. Any one may term the equipments of racquetball as to costly but with the growth of popularity and fan following the game has; sporting goods manufacturers produced a variety of equipment that could fit any budget.

In this respect, the first equipment on which attention must be paid to is the racquet. As the part of a general rule, the more expensive the racquet, the better it is. However for the beginners, a medium-priced racquet will be the best one. There is a great availability of the aluminum-framed racquets in the market and they are also cheap but you'll have to exert extra effort for more power. In addition, as far the reports are concerned they have been found to cause too much vibration making them harder to hold steady. The preference of the advanced players rests with the more expensive titanium or graphite frames because of the power these racquets give. These are basically light racquets for ease of maneuvers on the court. Balls and clubs are usually standardized, hence, whatever you buy is just fine. The differences between high-priced balls and clubs from lower-priced ones are so subtle that they are rendered insignificant. Lastly, since racquetball is a laborious sport before buying any racquetball equipment, racquets, gloves, balls, clubs, supplies, and other racquetball gears, it is important to do simple tests. Never forget to check the comfort of the goggles and the gloves. Grip the racquet and give it a few swings. It's no use buying top quality equipment if you're not comfortable using them. But apart from the right gear, there is also the need of confidence and attitude that will serve you in your game.
