Rachel Weisz - A Quiet Riot!

Added: 09/28/2007

In 2006 a one-month pregnant 35-year-old British actress Rachel Weisz created a buzz while expecting her first child. She thinks it is safe for pregnant mothers to drink wine after three months. She set off the medical fraternity ablaze. Other than that, the quintessential English beauty has led a fairly harmless life-Public or personal. The heady world of entertainment thrives on its glamorous, sexy leading ladies. Known best for her talents in ‘The Mummy and The Mummy Returns’ the gorgeous actress is basking in male adulation. Why do men find her sweet and sexy at the same time? The English beauty has a healthy streak and is an ideal pin up poster girl for drooling men folk. Strange but Rachel finds Hollywood toxic!

Rachel Weisz, the quintessential English beauty was geared up for a life of glamour aged 15 years. The acting bug bit the daughter of an inventor father and a psychoanalyst mother. In college Rachel Weisz joined a dram group and also a radical feminist. She also honed her skills in student drama group called ‘Cambridge Talking Tongues’; she was a member of co-production and also starred in it. The play went on to be presented with an award at the prestigious Edinburgh festival. This was in 1991 when Rachel was thinking of becoming a model and earning. But coming from a Jewish-Catholic lineage, it was in her parents’ interests that she completed her education. Her parents did not let her act in 1985 Richard Gere starrer ‘King David’ because she was only 14 years old. Being born in Britain she has imbibed some of iits culture. She studied literature to fulfill her parents’ wishes. She zoomed up her celebrity quotient with a short modeling career as a teenager. As some point of time she also did a small stint in television. It was only after a successful stint in world cinema that she was chosen in 2005 as face of Revlon. In 2006 she was the ‘new face’ Burberry fragrance in London toppling super model Kate Moss.

She would have remained non existent for Hollywood had she not got some parts to showcase her talent. Despite that she had also notched an award for a promising new comer in 1994. So when the stunning English Rose by name of Rachel Weisz entered the orbit of Hollywood studios she booked her self a place in memorable movies. Her Hollywood debut was with Bernardo Bertolucci’s film ‘Stealing Beauty’ with Liv Tyler in 1996. She got noticed in ‘The Mummy’ (1999) as the simple librarian opposite Brendan Fraser and she notched up the sequel too. She has also done a brilliant job in ‘Enemy at the gates’, ‘Chain Reaction’ (1996) with Keanu Reeves, Constantine and she shone in ‘Runaway Jury’ with Cussack and Hackman. As her acting abilities do match with her glamour she has been a recipient of the Golden Globe Award in 2002 for Best Supporting Actress for ‘The Constant Gardener’. With her good screen presence she is being considered for the sequel for the much-delayed project ‘Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For’. Will she replace Jolie who is still the preferred choice if she can start the shooting in early 2008? It’s still a rumor floating in the air. The makers themselves remain noncommittal to other options.

Rachel shuttles between New York and London and is neigbours to good friend and fellow actor Jude Law. Rachel Weisz lives with her fiancé Darren Aronofsky live in NYC, with their son Henry chance. In 2006 she won an Oscar for ‘Best supporting Role’ in ‘The Constant Gardner’. She played a pregnant woman in reel life and in real life she was pregnant during the filming of this project. Rachel Weisz patronizes The X Appeal-the official charity of Royal College of radiologists. She too has a list of screen idols she fancies. They include Katherine Hepburn, Jack Nicholson, Shirley Maclaine, Ingrid Bergman, Jimi Hendrix and Gena Rowlands. And her famous quote, “ I am not going to pretend I haven’t secretly wanted to be super skinny, because all girls do. But I have a woman’s body, not a boy’s body. Most women do and should feel proud of their butts and their breasts and their bellies.”
