"The Gateway to the North" as the city of Prince Albert Saskatchewan, the third largest city in the Province of Saskatchewan, is one of the most picturesque cities in these parts of Canada. Its beauty is unparalleled due to the abundance of water bodies in and around it, forest, and a wide range of wildlife. Prince Albert National Park which is situated about 50 kms away from city in the North is one of the most beautiful parks in the world.
The city of Prince Albert Saskatchewan got its name in 1866 from Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's (the then monarch) husband, who had died in 1861. The name was given by a missionary priest who came to the area to establish a mission. In 1904 the city was renamed again as Prince Albert, this time in the honor of Prince Albert who was the son of the Prince of Wales at that time. Hence, the city of Prince Albert Saskatchewan was in this way baptized twice, with the same name, though in the honor of two different people.
One of the biggest attractions of the city of Prince Albert Saskatchewan is the Prince Albert National Park. Just 50 kms north of the city, the Prince Albert National Park is sprawled over a vast expanse of forest among a wide and varied wildlife. People from all over the world come to relax with different outdoor engagements and camping. Fishing is one main attraction of the area, where people are capable of indulging in their favorite pastime of fishing both on the North Saskatchewan River and all over the great number of lakes which peppers Prince Albert National Park.
Prince Albert Saskatchewan has three-four very informative historical museums which makes it a good stop for some very interesting glimpses of the past. The regular visitor can learn a lot by just browsing through the well maintained and exhibited items in the three museums.
Besides the museums Prince Albert Saskatchewan attracts many tourists with its extremely beautiful natural setting and wildlife. The Prince Albert National Park is a hot favorite in this line. The city itself is set up on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River which by itself is enough attraction for visitors.
