Play Laser Tag

Added: 07/30/2007

It seems like such a kid's game when you first get there. The laser tag place has a little party area, a video game room, and it just feels like a place where you would find a group of pre-teens gathered to gossip and eat pizza. But there is something about laser tag that transcends the youth roller skating crowd and if you play laser tag you will start to realize that the game is something that anyone of any age can enjoy.

Many years ago I had a job at a very successful regional wholesale distributor of computer supplies and parts. They were all wonderful people to work with but the atmosphere in the office was about as stale as it sounds like it was. Many of the upper management were proud of the fact that they were the managers of a successful regional wholesale distributor of computer supplies and parts and while that is great for making sure that everyone has a job it doesn’t really do a whole lot for making people feel like they are really appreciated for what they do. I am also not the kind of person who can just sit in a cubicle and do my job for 8 hours a day. When I got to know the personalities of some of the people I was working with I started to realize that many of them craved a little off site way to release work related tensions. I thought the perfect way was to shoot lasers at each other in what was considered to be a kids game.

I organized a monthly excursion for anyone in the office that wanted to play laser tag. Initially the idea was met with some consternation by the management and even some of the employees. But much to my elation my manager thought it was a great idea and he tried to recruit as many people as he could to play laser tag. In the end our little outing to play laser tag became quite successful and we had, by the time I left the company, at least two full teams of 25 people each out there blasting away once a month. I had heard that once I left no one tried to play laser tag anymore and I thought that was a shame. There is nothing that brings an office together like deciding to go out and play laser tag.

Laser tag is a game that is played in a large, but dark, room that is lit usually with powerful black lights so that you can see where you are going but so you can also see all of the important lights associated with the game that you need to see. Many laser tag arenas also paint the poles and walls of the arena with glowing paint that lights up in the black lights and makes some very cool designs. Laser tag is very popular with small kids and pre-teens but I also found out, as you can see, that it can be very popular with any age group. When I had the office out there to play laser tag we had people of all ages taking aim at each other and blasting away and having a great time. It was a fantastic way for our office to blow off steam and after only a couple of months it became very popular with the office as well. Each person had to pay their own way but that did not bother anyone as they all would ask me when the next outing was supposed to be every month. It did a lot to raise office morale and it also did a lot to help people create a feeling of friendship that maybe was not there before. If you are looking for a way to help raise office morale I highly suggest a monthly game of laser tag.

Laser tag has also become a very popular place for young children to have their birthday parties. It seems that gone are the days when a birthday party at the local McDonald’s restaurant was a big deal to kids and now enter the laser tag birthday party. When my boy was younger that is all he wanted for a birthday party every year. Each year we would try to get him to do something different and each year he would insist on a laser tag birthday. They are relatively inexpensive and they will make your kid the talk of the school for at least a few days. Young or old it is safe to say that everyone should play laser tag.
