Playing Outburst Can Be Fun

Added: 11/20/2005

Playing outburst at a party or in a group situation can be a fun and exciting time, especially if you are part of a team or group. In this game, each team has one minute to come up with ten correct answers to a certain topic displayed on the top of a card. While the first eight may be easy, scrambling for those last two can result in a rambunctious, exciting game for all players.

Animals with stripes or spots.  Modes of transportation.  Food offered at an amusement park.  Things you can find in a bathroom.  While these may seem like random thoughts, they are actually examples of topics for Outburst, a trivia board game developed, designed and manufactured by Hasbro.  This exciting two player or team game can provide fun and entertainment for hours.  Outburst is an excellent game for group icebreakers or already connected friends looking for a great board game to play.

When playing outburst, a topic card has a specific topic across the top and contains ten answers listed below.  It's up to the player or the team to guess all 10 answers.  Each team has one minute to do this, so teams must brainstorm and come up with as many examples or answers as possible in this short time.  Often times it can get rather exciting playing Outburst, as teams strive to find the final answer as time quickly elapses.  Sometimes the topic seems easy, but as teams really begin to consider what the answers could be, coming up with 10 can be difficult.  The game comes with over 600 topic cards, giving you a wide variety to choose from and ensuring the game can contain many rounds lasting for several hours.

Playing Outburst at parties and group gatherings is good for a variety of reasons.  First off, it allows people who don't socialize well at parties a way to interact with other visitors.  It gives them people to talk to and something to talk about.  The game is also well-suited for times when you have individuals at a group function that feel out of their element or do not feel as though they are part of the group.  With all group members contributing, these individuals will soon realize what an intergal part of the group they are and how their team can't function without them.

Another reason playing Outburst works well at parties and gatherings is because you don't need a lot of knowledge to answer the questions.  The topics for Outburst cover general areas of information and things you encounter in your everyday life, such as items you find in your bathroom.  No extensive thinking is required.  It's just a matter of using your brain to remember things, such as all the animals that have stripes and spots.

Playing Outburst is largely popular and has led to several spin-off games.  Reverse outburst, where players and teams try to guess the topic from the answers, and challenge are two games created due to the popularity of the original outburst.  Game seekers can now also buy the Ultimate Outburst edition, which contains all three outburst games, or the Bible edition of Outburst, which is perfect for youth groups or church camps.

Outburst is a great game for teams and groups of people, especially when needing to bring a member into the group or as an icebreaker for the newly formed groups.  It will have each team working together in no time as they scramble to figure out all ten answers before their time runs up, and before you know it, an outburst of some kind will have teams laughing and enjoying themselves.
