Planning The New Hampshire Wedding

Added: 02/24/2006

So, you're getting married in the great state of New Hampshire. Wedding ceremonies are wonderful; I always cry. Cheers! All right, congratulations and small talk are over: It's time for you to start planning your bridal outfit and wedding reception. Below, we take a look at a handful of shops, plus lakeside and other locations to plan an honest-to-Pierce New Hampshire wedding reception.

It has become well beyond a cliche (What is a cliche called after performing such a function for thousands of years in dozens of languages?) to say that one of the most important stages in life's way, even in New Hampshire, wedding time.

First of all, everywhere, even in New Hampshire, wedding dresses are key. New Hampshire wedding dress boutiques are really everywhere in that quaint traditional New England fashion. As with most other such niche business in New Hampshire, wedding boutique choice so often depends on the location of the bride-to-be.

For example, for the fashionable future bride living on the coast, an interesting option is presented in Andrea's. Perhaps the newest boutique of choice in New Hampshire, wedding accessories primarily pushed by the shop include gowns by 2Be and St. Pucchi, bridesmaid and bride's dresses by Krysia and Daymor and tuxedoes by Sam Meyers. Conveniently located next door (and surely in no way coincidental) is Feliciano's Limousines. Nudge nudge, wink wink, hint hint.

Spectacular Wedding Designs, or SWD, is one of the bigger bridal shops in New Hampshire. Wedding gowns, accessories and new items are promised no less frequently than daily as are affordable prices. Of course, money is no object when it comes to weddings, right?

Also of note is Claire Veils. Though technically based in New Hampshire, Claire does business mostly online. (Just stick a dot com at the end of the company name.) As the name implies, the specialty here is headgear. You can get veils, jewelry and tiaras here. A specialty shop within specialty shops. Claire is at least worth a look, though that money-is-no-object comment because relevant again here.

The Granite State is noted throughout the United States as a nice tourist spot; thus there are innumerable spots exist for a New Hampshire wedding reception.

Let's start with trouble. Believe it or not, one quite trendy spot is Candia's Evergreen Pavillion. It's ten minutes outside of Manchester, has landscaped grounds replete with covered bridge and fountain in addition to a covered patio area. Sound good? Sure, until you learn it's part of a golf course, in which case Evergreen starts to sound very good to the groom and his buddies, while horrific to the bride who becomes a golf widow before the cake is cut.

Ashworth-by-the-Sea, nearby Hampton Beach, is a beautiful place suitable for all sorts of social events, and quite romantic for a wedding reception. The only disadvantage comes with the overabundance of tourists so common in summer, but Ashworth is secluded enough so as guests are not overrun by Bahstaners.

The Gunstock Inn, despite its ominous name, is in an ideal location nearby Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New Hampshire. Wedding reception planners have been promised a "commanding" view of the lake. Twenty-five guest rooms round out the package, making this a particularly interesting choice for those partying with mainly close friends and close relatives.

And for those of you planning a wedding in New Hampshire or elsewhere, Cheers!
