When most folks first think of California's city of Folsom, they think of Folsom prison. The facility was opened in 1880 and designed to house repeat offenders and those criminals who were deemed to be unfit to ever reenter society again. Some of its most famous residents were Charles Manson, Rick James, and Erik Menendez. Though never an inmate, the great Johnny Cash immortalized the feel of despair associated with the prison when he penned the words to "Folsom Prison Blues." Thus, when thinking of Folsom, sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll may come to mind, but a wedding, Folsom style, is quite possibly not often thought of.
Sadly, this is a great shame! The city has so much more to offer than its most famous facility leads many to believe. For example, if you and your fiancé are history buffs, and would love to dress in period costumes for the big day, why not consider a Renaissance wedding; Folsom hosts an annual Renaissance fair with numerous activities for participants of all ages! Can't you just picture the bride in a beautiful laced gown, the groom with a sword at his side, and a feather on his wide-brimmed hat?
If this is perhaps a bit too intricate for your taste, you can still enjoy the city's historic side without actually having to don a costume yourself. As a matter of fact, the Cliff House of Folsom is almost an institution amongst the restaurants and banquet halls of the city. It offers beautiful reception facilities, a breathtaking view, and all the gourmet food a hungry wedding party and their guests could possibly want to consume. The setting, the restaurant is located very near Lake Natoma, is perfect for an outdoor wedding Folsom style with a reception immediately following for all those in attendance.
Of course, the incurable romantic will insist upon a ceremony at or near the beautiful lake and be certain to invite all the friends and family to the wedding; Folsom city will do the rest! For example, why not put up the happy couple and the wedding party in one or more of the many wonderful bed and breakfast establishments that are nearby? Another option is the comfort of the reasonably priced cottages of the Old Town Inn. As you can see, a wedding Folsom-style is nothing to be surprised by. As a matter of fact, it is a shame that not more folks have come to find out about the beauty, grandeur, and breathtaking scenery that makes up the city and surrounding areas of Folsom. Whether you are planning and indoor or an outdoor wedding, this city will leave a lasting impression on all its visitors, and will make the perfect backdrop to that perfect and unforgettable event in your life. As a matter of fact, it may bind you in its spell to such an extent that you might consider actually relocating to this fair city.
Folsom is one of the California cities that have seen a large influx of new residents. Granted, many come for the jobs that appear to be in ready supply, but many more have become enchanted by its rich history, its amazing surroundings, and its gorgeous natural reserves. Of course, the many events and activities the town has to offer don't hurt, either. So the next time you hear about Folsom, sex, drugs and the "Folsom Prison Blues" may be part of the history, but they are far from shaping the actual city and its inhabitants!
