Planning An Ontario Wedding

Added: 04/29/2007

If you are planning an Ontario wedding this year you are certainly not pressed for choice when it comes to resources. Weddings are big business in Ontario so it doesn't come as any surprise that the possibilities for wedding related venues and services are endless. There are hundreds of possibilities that can help you make your special day one that will be remembered forever.

If you are engaged and planning on a wedding in Ontario in the near future you have countless options open to you that will truly make your wedding day as special and unique as you are. There are many free or low cost resources available to you that will aid you in making the right decisions for your taste and your budget. When you first begin to start planning your Ontario wedding your best option is to investigate some of these resources. Be it a wedding show, an online resource group or a wedding planner you need to find what works best for you based on your timelines and your budget. The prospect of wading through decisions for florists, catering, bar service, dresses, cakes, photographers etc can be daunting to most couples so you will find that by enlisting the help of a knowledgable person in the industry will be your greatest benefit.

Having an Ontario wedding is great because your choices for venues are excellent. Choosing a site for your wedding is usually the first decision that couples make in the planning of their wedding. Potential wedding “hot spots” book up quickly, often a year in advance or more. The most important factors to consider when deciding where you are going to get married are accessibility, size, facilities and cost. You want to make sure that you are getting a facility that is going to be the right size for everyone attending, that can be gotten to easily by the majority of your guests, that will meet your needs regarding photo opportunities and of course one that falls into your budget. When you have found a place that suits your needs your wisest move at that point is to reserve it right away! Usually a deposit of about a thousand dollars will be required to hold the location for your wedding date.

The next thing to consider, once you have chosen the facility is what sort of food service you will be having. Some of the more popular food services for weddings include: table service, buffet, family service, hors d’oeurves or grill service. There are possibilities for any budget and style. Usually the facility that you book for your wedding will have catering services available or will be able to point you in the right direction.
You will also need to look at bar service if you are offering alcohol at your wedding. Once again you will have options. The most traditional is open bar but some go with a cash bar or have open bar with limited service (such as beer and wine). Bare in mind that if you are having your Ontario wedding at one of the many beautiful wineries in the province you are likely going to be required to serve wine from that particular winery only. Usually the wine is provided at a discount but be sure to ask what the corkage fees are.

Once you have worked out when, where and what you are serving you will be in a better position to start making decisions about other wedding options. This is where having some resources and help will come in handy. Professionals in the industry will be able to refer you to businesses that are fairly priced and can get you what you need for your special day. Many times engaged couples can become overwhelmed when they try to face these decisions by themselves. There is a wealth of companies that are all vying for your business and it can be hard deciding what will work best for you. Usually if you find one element in the industry that you like and trust, that particular business is networked with others who can help you. Another good suggestion is for you to talk to friends and family who have recently gotten married or attended weddings. If you do take a referral to a company don’t be shy in asking for a reduced rate. With the Ontario wedding industry being so busy right now it is customary for services and gods to be reduced when the bride and groom are referred.
