The Papal cross was erected in the park for the visit of the late Pope John Paul II in 1979. Phoenix park gathers its name from the Irish fionn uisce, which means clear water. Phoenix park has also been used for many open-air concerts and the park also has its own motor show, which has been rightly named the Phoenix park motor races.
Phoenix park is a very easy place to get to, whether you are going to Ireland in a ferry or plane you will find it an easy place to travel to. Also other easy modes of transport to the park include car travelling and even trains will all drop you off at a area close to Phoenix park and its grounds. The train may prefer to drop you off at Dublin city centre which will then mean that you will have to take a small walk to the park.
