Another funny thing about Patriot's Day, is the fact that occasionally Tax Day falls on this date as well. Sometimes it falls on the following week, either way it causes the tax deadline to be extended a day for many states. Why does it do that you ask? Well this happens because the IRS processing center for those states is located in Massachusetts. Thus, that processing center is on holiday during the tax deadline, thus you get an extra day to turn in your taxes for the previous year. It was sad on Patriots' day of 2007, because of heavy rain. This caused the annual battle reenactment to get canceled for the first time ever. That has never happened in all the years they have been doing the reenactment. Also in lighter news, the Boston Red Sox had their game delayed. The only thing that was not effected was the Boston Marathon race, which started on time as usual. I love holidays and think its a great time to spend with your friends and family. I think that Patriots' Day should be no different. I wish that every state celebrated this holiday, I love any celebration that starts off a three day weekend.
This is just a fun time to get together with people and learn some things about history. To me that is the best way to learn history. If it is something that you need to learn (and that you should learn), then why not celebrate it in a way that makes people want to learn it. Nothing does that better than a holiday. Also nothing gets families together like a holiday. So why not go to Massachusetts or Main and get in some good quality time with your family? After you get there you will be so happy that you chose to take part in this amazing holiday. Not only that, your family will be happy that your chose to do it as well. That is just the way these types of things work out. So why not give Patriots' Day a try, it could be just what you are looking for.
